Mike - You're scaring me. All chains, regardless of manufacturer, are installed cutting edge down facing forward across top of bar.

That was actually a tongue in cheek remark, I've been sawing for years I know which way the chain goes. I'm just frustrated that this particular chain keeps flipping. There isn't much to a chainsaw I shouldn't be having this amount of trouble. Eh, it shouldn't be but a couple more months and this cheap *** saw gives it up and I can go get a new one.

Glad I paid 450 bucks for a Husq that I can't get parts for before this one.

Glenn that's an awesome video! That car is a 66. If I weren't so hung up on the 68 the 66 would be my next choice. It sure didn't sound like a Slant 6! Thanks for posting that.

Glenn - Good suggestion to evaluate the front chain wheel of the chain bar to ensure it turns smoothly - bar bent? chain wheel damaged &/or filled w/ debris?

Good morning everyone.

Okay day here at Big D. Thursdays always seem to be benign, a probable lead-in to the Friday disaster.

The front wheel on the saw is moving freely. In fact it's a new bar because I got the saw stuck in a big tree I was sawing and bent the bar trying to get it out. I've been thinking I haven't been sharpening the chain correctly.

Gotta get the big trailer hooked up to the Suburban this afternoon. I need to take the riding mower over to Mom's and finally cut the bottom of the back yard. It hasn't been cut in several years and while the grass isn't all that tall, there are pine trees starting to grow and I don't need any more of them. Might as well get them cut down before they are too big for the mower to run over.

Well have a good day everyone.

Glenn - Cool video, thanks for posting!

I was crusin in a Valiant at a very young age. I think I was somewhere around 3yrs-old, maybe around 1963, in the 1st pic? We took a trip out to Yelllowstone National Park in this car in 1966 when I was 6 and my brother was 3. I can't remember when Dad sold it?

No. The house in the pic was a brand new house my parents had built around '63. That is why the yard is so bare (no shrubs/trees/etc.). The house in the pic was only 2 bedrooms. When my Sister came along ~4-yrs later they were going to need a bigger place. It just so happened that at that time their neighbor kitty-corner across the street was selling their much larger home (4 bedrooms), and my parents bought it because they liked the neighborhood and it was just what they were looking for, plus they loved the fact it was directly on the lake. My Sister lives in that house on the lake.

Mike - It is highly unlikely the chain flipped off the bar because you were not sharpening the chain correctly.

Really I was being a wiseguy, but thinking about it more it isn't so far fetched. The chain doesn't cut well, so I add pressure, bar deflects a little and the chain loosens a little, I let off and the chain flips. Maybe maybe not. My big Husq doesn't do it. I'm close to spending 80 bucks on a replacement start cord, but I'd hate to do that if it will only last a short time like the original. And I could get a fake off Amazon for a few dollars, but the reviews say it will last even less. Hell.

Double check the chain you installed is compatible with the bar you installed (important). Take cover off where chain bar mounts to chainsaw. Evaluate the chain tensioner operation & look for any tell-tale signs of wear, misalignment with cogs, teeth, and tensioner operates accordingly. If you have to fight the tensioner the could be the tensioner itself but again it “could” be the incorrect chain for the bar, they need to match up and easily slide in the bar groove. Too wide or too narrow can be an issue.

The bar and the chain were bought as one. Meaning they came in the same package. The saw itself I bought, hm, in the fall? Later? Anyway it isn't but a few months old. Everything checks out. It's probably operator error. Eh, wouldn't be the first time.

Chris I was thinking the "new" house was next door. Did the Valiant make the trip across the street?

And….that bar & that chain (pkg) are specifically listed to fit the Model No. of your chainsaw, correct. Double check numbers.

My friend bought the plate that yanks t posts. He brought his Hi Lift Jack, made locally in Bloomfield, IN and often called a Bloomfield Jack, and a plate. Olds Ralph recommended this method. He is right. We used it this past weekend at the range, and used it yesterday at my place. We pulled 15 or so T posts, took down about 50 yards of fence. A couple bent, a couple broke, we salvaged two thirds or so. Put some to use in the garden for better fence posts. The rest will run our target line here in a month.

Got a call this AM, friend and his wife want to visit tomorrow night. So I am cleaning and mowing.

Mike - I can't remember for sure if Dad still bad the Valiant when we moved or not, it would have been close. Dad bought a brand new Cutlass in '67, the same year we moved across the street, but I can't recall if he bought it before or after the move. We only needed one car then because my Mom did not have a driver's license yet.

Thanks Glenn! I'm still trying to find a few pics of the '67 Cutlass Dad bought new that year. I know we had pics of that car. They may be at my Sister's house.

Chris - After the Hershey Highway (food poisoning) event I think I may have caught a cold or an allergy flare-up as my sinuses became stuffed up & ever so slight chills during the day sometimes. I've thought a couple times of the stress I was going through w/ the truck, renting a car, etc. I generally handle situations quite well & hardly ever sweat stuff. I think I may have overcome my tolerance for stress which made me more susceptible to a sinus/cold/allergy infection. Certainly happy to be firing on all cylinders.

Talking

Good morning everyone.

Friday is always good for a skeleton crew and no direction. Today doesn't disappoint. Although I do have a good wall guy and robot guy so I shouldn't do too bad.

Those auto mowers make me think, Roomba for the outside.

If I'm down and need a pick-me-up, I usually turn on The Rodeo Song. Nice and upbeat, and is a good depiction of my current demeanor.

Chris I forgot you said your dad had a 67 Cutlass. Obviously it must have been aqua with a black top My dad got a new car about every year and a half. He was a traveling salesman and got a car from his company. He drove AMC wagons for years. I remember every one of them.

It's go out to lunch day. Don't know where to go. I have 3 1/2 hours to figure it out. I'm going solo today since my lunch guy got a new job.

Okay have a great weekend everyone.

Glenn - Glad you were able to get vaccinated.
The Automowers look interesting but I'm afraid how well they would work on a fairly steep grade like I have going from my front down into my backyard.

Yes, my Dad's '67 Cutlass was the reason a '67 Old's was on my short list when I started looking for a classic car. I vividly remember going to the Old's dealer with him when he bought it. He was looking at the Supremes and they had the 4-4-2's parked right next to them. I tried (as much as an 8-yr old can) talking him into getting a 4-4-2, and I remember him saying he didn't think my Mom would like a 4-4-2. They didn't have a Supreme he liked on the lot so he sat down with a salesman and ordered one. It was red with red interior and had the wire wheel covers. I always thought it was the prettiest car we ever had growing up.

Nice that your Dad was able to get a company vehicle every couple of years, especially with the line of work he was in.

Good afternoon guys,

Keegan had a great night in goal last night recording a shut-out in a 2-0 win.

Haven't been on here quite as much the last couple of days due to dealing with a few issues. Remember that Missouri State tax reduction I mentioned related to a tax credit for property owners' who suffered severe damage due to storms in March of 2025? Well, after the fact the State is requesting a signed affidavit form for all homeowners' filing for the credit. This form was not available or stipulated at the time we filed, so our claim for the credit was originally rejected thru no fault of our own. So Dawn and I had to go to our tax guy this morning and physically sign the form and it was electronically resubmitted. We also came to find out from our tax guy that the whole tax credit (Missouri Disaster Recovery Act) is being challenged in court right now, headed for the Missouri State Supreme Court, so no one is going to be getting the credit any time soon.

Also been dealing with two health insurance billing matters, one on my side and one on Dawn's. Anymore it seems like none of these healthcare organizations can follow simple insurance submission procedures or do simple accounting. I'm wondering if there is a point where you can sue the stupid SOB's for time and aggravation due to their incompetence? It is really, really, getting aggravating!

We got some very heavy rain and winds last night after everyone was in bed. Of course this sent Monty into a tizzy with heavy panting. Dawn slept right thru it of course. I meanwhile was wide awake and had to get an old towel to put under where Monly was laying so he didn't soak the bedspread and sheets. This episode kept me up between about 2am and 4:30am, so I'm kinda running on empty.

The monthly cruise-in at Culvers in Festus is tomorrow evening and I'm planning on going.
Hope everyone has a great weekend! 😃

Chris - Insurance & state bureaucracy - PITA. The entire state of NC has been in an extreme fire alert category the past week (maybe two weeks) w/ a ban on all outdoor burning. We're hoping (expecting) to get some relief tomorrow night & Sunday w/ a 90% chance of rain. Many clubs routinely play Stableford or a modified Stableford format. Not necessarily in tournament play, but rather in daily/weekly Association play e.g. local club Men's Golf Association, etc. It's a fun format. I was hitting on all cylinders for the better part of today's play. Hole 9 is one of our tougher holes - requires a well played/placed tee shot w/ an over the water approach to the green. Nailed it like a dog w/ two dicks for a birdie.
