Good morning guys,

The frigid cold is moving back in here again today too, but nothing like Greg is experiencing. Out lows are only suppossed to be around zero for the next couple of days.

Blaire, Justin, and Keegan are off to Keegan's big hockey Tournament in Dubuque, IA after dropping Gabe off at school. I will be getting Gabe off the school bus at 3pm. I will be responsible for and running all weekend to get Gabe to his 3 games. He has one tomorrow at 1pm locally, 1 tomorrow night at 7:45pm all the way over in Jefferson City, MO that's 125-miles away, and one Sunday afternoon at 4pm in McKendree, IL that is about 60-miles away. The game in Jefferson City is a make-up for the one that was canceled last weekend during our snowstorm. At least there is no frozen precip in our forecast that would make travel difficult or dangerous.

Hope everyone has a great day and weekend! 😃

After a week dominated by sunshine since our snowstorm, you can see how much snow is still on the ground and roof tops. Of course the bare patch at the back of my yard is the area I used the snowblower to clear. Very unusual for this much snow to stick around this long here, and it isn't going away anytime soon.

Jim - Chili looks great. I have a little chicken noodle soup remaining.
Chris - I know you enjoy your busy schedule w/ the grand kids. Safe travels.

I don't want to but I need to venture outdoors. I'm hoping to ensure the portable generator fires up in case it is needed. I fired it up last summer, all was good. I try to do a decent enough job w/ it for storage, but I'd hate to be surprised to find out it's Tango Uniform when it's needed. Did a decent sciatica PT routine this morning. Time to see how well the bones move along.

Norm - Very smart on your part to make sure your generator is going to start before you need it. I hope it fires right up for you. Also glad to hear you're keeping up with your PT and that it's helping.

I had not started my truck, which is sitting outside in the driveway, in at least 2-weeks. It has a solar trickle charger hooked up to it, and I had cleared the snow off the windshield so the panel could get light, but I thought it would be wise to check how the battery was holding up in the type of cold we've been experiencing. I went out yesterday and tried to fire it up, and was happy to see it fired right up. I let it run at least 20-minutes, running at full operating temp for at least 10 of those 20-minutes.

Mike - The main reason was I just didn't feel like getting out in a cold truck and going for a drive. Another minor reason is there was still a fair amount of snow around and under the tires from where I pulled snow off the hood, windshield, and sides, but didn't want to get any closer with the snowblower and was too lazy to shovel it away. Pic is today.

Generator: Turned to ON position, opened fuel flow, set choke & pulled rope w/ current spark plug installed ~10-12 times to ensure fuel was flowing liberally (no, it has no electric start). Wouldn't fire up. I suspected it might not after first try. Installed new spark plug & fired up straight-away. Ran it ~20 minutes.
Grabbed a 5 gal. fuel can headed to fuel station, filled diesel tractor w/ diesel fuel, filled 5 gal. fuel can, picked up a couple new Champion RC12YC plugs to have on-hand, grabbed x3 bags of water softener salt pellets, topped off water softener tank, topped off generator fuel tank, fired up the generator & ran it another 10 minutes.
Very happy to have increased my confidence the gen. runs.
Additionally, very happy the diesel tractor has a block heater & dual batteries.
Receiving weather alerts as though Armageddon is upon us. Hey, let it snow. Traffic in my little Podunk town is crazy - especially since it's Friday. The entire town will likely shut down the next couple of days - so funny, really.

Norm how did the round about discussion turn out? Are they going to install the infernal thing?

Mike - There hasn't been a round-a-bout discussion for a couple years. It was carved in stone they (NCDOT) were installing a round-a-bout. The BOC (Board Of Commissioners) meetings I was attending the past two months was for a rezoning request to develop ~20 acres behind & next to my home - which was approved.

Norm - Glad you were able to get the generator started, and are now prepared for Armageddon! . . . Wait, can you really prepare for Armegeddon??? Seriously, I hope it's all hype and you don't get hit too bad! 🤞

Ah, then I don't know where I got round about from your meetings. What are they developing next to you that you'll be forced to endure forever more?

Well, at one point I did discuss the round-a-bout in the past couple months - can't recall in what context, but you did see me writing something about it. They plan to construct x20 rental unit buildings ~5 units/bldg (101 total units) on 20 acres.

Oh yeah, BTW, maybe it was because you saw me write about the round-a-bout construction which is now taking place. That construction just began last month. It wouldn't matter what they construct around here, the locals hate change of any type.

Norm - Your salad looks delicious, especially with the Avocados. I haven't bought any Avocados in awhile since I was eating so many when I had my stomach problem. I really need to buy them more often..

Never any doubt about your soup, I knew it would be a hit!

I had leftover Chili, with PB sandwiches again for my dinner. Even better the 2nd time around!

Dawn is making Cinnamon Rolls again for the elderly folks down the street that she cleans house for. She asked if I'd like some more or if I'd rather have her Caramel Pecan Rolls? That's a no brainer for me, I'd much rather have her Caramel Pecan Rolls, they're a tie with her Banana Cake for the best desserts she makes! I'll post a pic when they're done.

Well here they are, fresh out of the oven. I'm going to have one (or 3) here in a second while they're still warm and gooey. They're absolutely the bomb! 👍

Chris those do look yummy. I thought you were staying with Gabe tonight?

Norm that would look better without the avocado's.

So what do you guys think about mowing when it's winter? I need to move more things around the yard and that will leave funny spots of tall grass. I'd like to mow under/around whatever I mow, but I'm afraid the cold weather will do awful things to the grass come spring. Any ideas?

Well I'm beat. Don't know why I didn't do too much today. Well, I get to sleep in tomorrow. Also, Awful house.

Okay have a good evening everyone.

Yes, it's the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park in North Muskegon, along the shores of Lake Michigan. Luge, ice skating, x country sking, and snow shoe trails. I haven't been up there in years, went x country skiing, which was hell on my back. Fortunately we brought snakebite medicine in case one of us got bit by a snow snake. No snow snakes, but we drank our medicine anyway.😃

Mike - We could go on about type/variety of grass, fescue, turfs & the like but at the of the day the grass will return with vigor - just need to keep intrusive weeds at bay. Go for it, cut it IMHO.

Mike - Thanks for the compliment on the sweet rolls, I'll let Dawn know. I am staying with Gabe tonight, but plans changed slightly. His other Grandma (my Ex) wanted to take him to dinner and a movie, and I didn't argue. I'm at Gabes house now. He's trying to teach me how to play some of his video games, something I've never did much of. We're having fun though! We can stay up fairly late because his 1st game isn't until 1:15pm tomorrow, and then he can nap during the 2&1/2-hour drive to his 2nd game tomorrow night at 7:45pm. We won't get back tomorrow night until about 11. It will be a long day!

Yesterday I bobsledded down the driveway, got out on my road, and went to work, then groceries. Came back home, slid into the drive, and climbed the hill all right. I spun at the top as I missed on my tracks, but got onto flat ground and parked. I did some shoveling today, but the snow is getting crusty and hard to shovel now. It should melt a little over the weekend and I hope the ruts are clear. I'll go in a few times next week.

Made lasagna tonight. So far, that's manicotti, casserole, meatloaf, pot roast, and lasagna. Beef strokin'off (which is the punchline to the "What do you get when you put a cow in a pasture next to bulls?" joke) tomorrow, then finally the pizza on Sunday. Maybe meatloaf again on Monday. I have leftover'ed up my small fridge freezer so I will have to stop cooking and just eat leftovers for a while. Edit: forgot pork ribs. There's a couple meals of Yankee Ribs in there, too.

John - Very admirable on the dishes you've prepared. I love Beef Stroganoff. Just thinking of that dish makes my mouth water.

About ~1/4" to 1/2" of crusty ice+snow covering everything this morning, thus far. Snow combined w/ light misting rain until tomorrow evening, supposedly.

They might have. Seems, if I recall correctly, that we had vodka. For medicinal purposes only you know. I preferred orange vodka. Schnapps may have been in the mix as well.

It's still snowing like a Banshee around here. The most snowfall I've seen in 26 yrs around here. My HVAC combination heat pump unit is electric. No electric no heat. Heat Pump has not resorted to strips (yet). The diesel tractor is plugged in, full tank of diesel fuel. Windchill temperatures hovering ~10°F, O.N. temps expected to be ~12°F w/ ~1°F windchill. These temps are expected to remain for several days. No frozen water pipes. I've been running water through the lines on all faucets every couple hours. Pretty windy outdoors. I'd hate to have to work for a plumbing or HVAC service in these conditions.

Jamesbo I don't laugh at snow. It's vulgar and disgusting. Today we are getting flurries, no accumulation. We get wind then it stops, then it starts again. Cold as a mother. The sun tries to come out, and right now I can see it behind some clouds, but so far it hasn't been victorious.

We've been doing inside stuff today, moving things from upstairs to downstairs. Cleaning. Sorting. Tomorrow I'm off to Birmingham for World of Wheels. Haven't been in several years. It will be a good show, and a good way to spend a day.

That was about our last week. We may get some more on Wed.

Stroganoff was good; need to cut the meat thinner.
