While I was over at my daughter's place this afternoon I heard some interesting news about the boys' hockey futures. Apparently Keegan is telling Mom and Dad he does not want to play in the Spring 4-on-4 hockey season and just wants to concentrate on his Baseball. Also, he wants to take a break from hockey in the Fall and try Flag Football. I'm fine with all this because the little guy is only 7 and I just want him to be having fun, and get to experience multiple sports before getting serious about any of them. Gabe on the other hand is excited about playing in the Spring 4-on-4 Season after the great Regular Season he's had. 4-on-4 is more wide open and the perfect playground for someone with the speed he has on the ice! He's also expressed a strong interest in attending one or more hockey camps over the Summer to keep him on the ice and to hopefully get a higher level of coaching/skills training. I already told Mom that I'll be more than happy to help with the $'s. I think Gabe is starting to put 2 and 2 together and realize he's going to have to really commit himself to improving if he wants to reach potential future levels.

I am glad Playboy is back to naked pretty girls. They tried clothed girls for a while and it about killed the brand.

Chris, there comes a time when a kid has to decide to get serious about a sport or not. I was never serious. I was mocked by some people that got better than me. I should have broken someone's face once as a message, but I did not, when I swam.

They are making a big ruckus about a snowstorm this weekend. I'll stock up and cook and clean. Snow is fine, ice is not.

High of 60°F, today. Appears the area I reside may be spared from the winter ice/snowstorm - we're sitting along the edges of the Southeastern reaches of the system.

Good morning everyone.

Whoa I just did a long session, continually signing for over an hour and a half. When I finally caught up I was at 26. That's better than some whole days. Was kind of nice actually.

Happy Birthday Gabe. Good for him he's making life decisions so early. He must have a lot of support at home. I know he does down the street.

The last Playboy I bought had Jessica Hahn on the cover. Yikes how long ago was that. I think it was 1988.

I keep hearing rumblings that we are getting that storm that's coming across the midwest. The weather on the phone says it's gonna be in the 40s and 50s for several days. Who knows. The only sure way to tell the weather is to open the window and look outside.

Okay break time. Hope everyone has a good day.

John - First, nice to hear from ya, we haven't heard much from you lately. You doing ok and staying away from all the crud going around?

Kids, especially Jr. High and Highschool, can be such jerks! Ya, you probably should have popped one of the ringleaders of those who mocked you, but you were smarter than they were. I guess when I look at kids getting "serious" about sports, it has to be tempered with realistic goals and expectations, realizing only 1 in a million are ever going to make a living at it. Even if you're "serious", if the main reason you're playing is for the love of the sport, you won't be disappointed, except for the very brief snapshot in time when you realize it's time to hang it up. Every kid and every situation is different, and the one thing you pray for is that you can instill in them is that being a good human being, and generally being successful in life, is a 1000-times more important than being successful in sports. Just my 2-cents.

I don't know what to think about the forecasted storm this weekend, other than it's going to be brutally cold. I'm seeing a bunch of conflicting estimates regarding snowfall totals for our area, right now seeing anywhere from just a couple to 6-inches.

Mike - That’s quite a run with the wheel signings! Do you happen to recall longer stretches! Just trying to gauge where that run falls compared to others you may have had in the past?

Thanks for the B-day wishes for Gabe!. I'm very thankful that both Gabe and Keegan have great role models for parents!

I remember one time I signed for 2 hours. Don't recall the number of wheels but what a stretch. I went to lunch today at 46. That's better than most full days. Someone must have lit a fire under these guys.

Light rain all morning, almost 50 so no ice storm yet. Mom said it's supposed to get frigid cold this weekend. Won't have any power lines down at my house because all utilities are buried. Don't want airplanes to get tangled up in power lines. But at the lake, that's a different story. They are all above ground and run every which way. Eh, we'll still have heat. Mom hates the wood stove but if it gets too cold in the house she might have a change in tune.

Going to look at a truck after work. Gotta get home and dig out the SRX, and hope I can get to the place without anyone noticing the license plates are 7 months expired.

I didn't know that Playboy was still around. I have the 30th anniversary issue, and that is around the time that I stopped subscribing. Single digit temps around here for tomorrow and saturday. Wind chills may be -20°-25°. We got about ten inches of snow yesterday, put the Snapper to work, all cleared out. Dr. appt. in a bit, I'd better go shower first.

Good luck with the potential truck purchase, I know you've been searching for a reasonable deal for awhile now! 🤞

Jim, You got to warn a guy.
I clicked on the link to the newest post in the thread and your post came up. I glanced at the link and only saw vintage so I clicked on it.
I am at work so whoops, luckily no one was around and i just happen to be in private mode.
I had not read what you guys were talking about, so maybe if I had I would not of clicked on it.
I thought it was to some vintage car page.
I will say that you do have good taste though.

Norm - With your knowledge of hockey and having played the game yourself I know you'll appreciate this. Gabe's team just posted their updated cumulative (regular season + tournament games) Stats today. Anyway you slice it, more than 1-Point per game average is outstanding. What I'm most amazed about is that he moved up in skill level this year, and every team knows what he's capable of, and he's still dominating his competition! I'm pretty damn proud of his effort this season!

Well, I got all of the stuff I wanted or reasonable alternatives to such there. Came home, unloaded, put the sandbags in the truck and pointed it down the driveway. I'll put the snow curtain over the windshield tomorrow. Left the bed cover open for more weight to deposit itself. I'll dig out Monday.

11 years ago I was sent on the road. It was going to snow badly at the Kentucky plant so I grabbed a pizza and sandwiches and drinks and camped out in the hotel for a day. The next day, they had cleared everything, so I drove the truck slowly to the plant across the interstate. Did what I needed to do that day, then, that afternoon, went home. I-75 was clear and dry and not a cloud in the sky. I had only cleared the windows and had driven slowly, so, going down the on-ramp I had 18 inches of snow on the hood, the roof, and on top of the bed rails, plus a bed full of snow. I was driving a comet for about ten minutes at 80 mph, plus I got to see wind vortex shaped snow in the bed, confirming some truck aerodynamic theories.

-8 on my thermometer this morning. Man, furnace runs for 10 minutes, off for 2 then on again. Just got filled w/ propane- $621. - second $600 fill this winter! I figure about $20 a day to heat this place.
--Did something stupid yesterday, there is a trail that goes thru a swamp across the lake from our house, then over a paved road then onto a golf course- the owner of the course allows snowmobiles to cross course. Last year we had a hard time getting over a tree that had fallen by road. I was going to go over and remove that fallen tree all summer but never did. This "trail" is not usable in summer for quads ,etc, because it is a swamp- in winter can go thru it on snowmobile cuz it's frozen. So decided to remove that tree yesterday. Took truck on road and realized I couldn't park truck there. So went back and got quad and approached from the lake. -----Got 3/4 of way thru and got stuck. Walked back across lake to house and got neighbor. We got both got on snowmobile (thinking I would pull quad out w/snowmobile) and went over to entrance of trail off lake. We walked as best we could- busting thru frozen snow made it really difficult to even stay standing! Needed snow shoes! I fell thru and went all the way so my crotch was at the snow- felt cold water enter the top of my rubber boot! My friend came over and attempted to help pull me out but I was stuck- I thought My God we may have to call 911! I was stuck in the muck. But with his help I got out. The 2 of us were able to lift up the rear of quad and operate throttle as attempting to walk along side of quad and got it out..
-- Lesson learned snow can go on top of standing water and insulate so thick ice isn't there like it is on the open part of lake.

Good morning everyone.

Been a slow morning this morning, which is good because I am slow. Didn't get out of the car place until after 7, got to Mom's and had a quick bite then headed home. Didn't get to bed until after 9. Tiger wanted to go out around 1130, and again at 230. I just stayed up at that point, since my alarm goes off at ten till 3.

The car place was its usual debacle. The salesman would say something then leave for 10 minutes. Then he'd come back and say something and leave for 10 minutes. This continued for 3 hours. Because he was waiting on other people. I said I'm the only customer in here what can they possibly be doing? Uh, loading stuff into the computers. He doesn't know that I used to be in the car business and know exactly what he's up to. The only reason I stuck around was because to date it's been the only way I can unload a troublesome trade. The truck I went to see was not there, but he had one just like it. Is it the big motor? No. Is it 4 wheel drive? No. Then it isn't just like it. But it's just a little more that's all. So he talks me into that and then says oh gee, this one isn't here either. But no problem we'll have it tomorrow morning. I said great bring it to my work. Actually it isn't a bad truck and isn't a bad deal. But now I get to go back tonight and start all over again. At least I don't have to be home early.

I don't know about this ice storm. It stayed in the 40s all night long, and will for as far out as I've seen. The weather people have said the storm will be going across Tennessee and then north up the coast. That doesn't include Atlanta, so why all the drama? I must be missing something. Eh, bring it on. It will be the first time since I've been here that an ice storm has occurred when I didn't have to be out in it.

Okay break is over and now I'm hungry. Might slip out for something. I got home at 8 last night, had a bite and went to bed. This morning I didn't feel like eating anything. It's caught up with me. Wheels are coming slow so I can go.

Have a good Friday everyone.

Yep, been there, done that. My brother's 50-acres near Hastings had multiple small ponds separated by swampy areas. You could traverse on foot to different areas of the property via trails that were more solid ground. I went up there to go deer hunting several times. One time I was walking in before daylight to my treestand. You don't want to use a flashlight unless you absolutely have to. It had snowed overnight and when I headed to my stand in the dark, and with the snow, I didn't realize I had gotten into part of the swampy area and one foot broke thru and one leg went in over my boot top. Had to turn around and head back to the house to change. No fun, no fun at all!

Mike - Sounds like the truck they have and you agreed to buy is lacking some key features you were looking for? Is this deal more about dumping the CRX, or having the truck, or about 50/50 each way? Not judging, just curious?

Up in Northern Wisconsin & along the Menominee River in the UP reside miles of peat moss bog terrain I loved to explore - hunting, three wheelers, hiking, fishing, etc. It's something in the summer when you feel you're on top a floating sponge ~10' - 30' deep.

Chris it's mainly to dump the SRX. If i could get it to pass the emission test I'd just keep it. It's extra at this point, and anything that replaces it will be extra. At least with a truck I can do truck things while I'm waiting to get my black truck back together. I told too many people I wanted to run it into the lake, so I have to get rid of it in a verifiable manner. I'm sure it wouldn't be the only one in there.

Yes, we had topography/hydrology like that in the area where I grew up, seen in the river valleys of older meandering streams/rivers. You can almost jump on it like a trampoline, really weird!

Good morning guys,

Frigid (10°) and blustery right now and the temp will continue to fall thru the day. Temp overnight will drop into the low single digits. Snow starts tomorrow around noon and now they're saying an accumulation of 8 -12" by Sunday afternoon. Gonna be a booger I think!

Hope alot of you guys along the southern fringe miss the ice, that would be worse! Have a great day!

I've often jumped on it in various areas. Sometimes you find a really large area between the trees & the bog will sorta "roll" while absorbing the jumping motion. I love it.

LoL, I've been there before too. Not a great position to be in, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get out from under a lemon. Good luck! 🤞
