We (our family) used to hunt down & collect black walnuts each fall. Ten bushels? Yikes, that's a lot of black walnuts.

Good morning everyone.

Such a beautiful morning at 0445 this morning. Not a cloud in the sky and the moon was so bright. There was a star not far off the moon that was pretty bright. I suspect it was actually a planet, but I couldn't tell you which one. Very crisp. Won't be long before I need a coat. Yick.

A friend of mine used to have pecan trees in his yard and he would give me buckets of pecans. I'd take them to Mom(when she lived in Florida the first time) and she'd make me pies. She threw some out for the squirrels and they didn't want them. I suspect they didn't know what they were, not many pecans in Central Florida.

Norm! (like on Cheers)

Think I might take the rest of the week off. It's gonna be nice and I could use the time to catch up on a couple things. And go look at a couple cars. That would give me a rather nice long weekend. No overtime for me Monday because Mom has a doctor's appointment. I'll have to see if one of the other leads will put me in, since my lead isn't here. I'm glad I'm not the only hypocrite in the shop. He goes on at length on how we need to show up for work to support the company, and we shouldn't take time off, and shouldn't expect to leave early even when we're done. He will just not show up, like today, he will take time off whenever he feels like it, and he will leave early and not say anything sometimes leaving us high and dry. Eh, the place runs better without him so what does that tell you.

So my latest rant about car insurance. State Farm wanted 500 for the Suburban for 6 months, which is ludicrous. I looked up Progressive and got it for exactly half. They asked if I was in an accident in the last how many years. I said no. They said they saw that I was in January, but apparently didn't count it against me. So today, I look them up for the Charger. SF wants over 1000 for 6 months. Because the Hellcat and the Hemi are the most stolen cars. Mine is neither. They ask about any accidents I said yes, referenced the wreck in January. They counted it against me and wanted 1300 for 6 months. Crooks. The wreck wasn't my fault and my insurance didn't pay out anything.

I think after work I'll try to get the ECM out of the SRX and look at getting a new one. That guy has been sitting for months and I can't do anything with it, all the while making the payment and paying insurance. I'm not the brightest sometimes, I should have had this taken care of right at the time.

Okay lunch. Have a good day everyone.

Mike - Just to verify I'm reading the above correctly, after Progressive had just given you a great price to insure the Suburban, they turn around and want to screw you on the Charger to the tune of $300 more per 6-months than State Farm? That's crazy!

If you end up getting the rest of the week off I hope you get alot done and spend some time enjoying yourself. 😃

Hi guys - I hope everyone has had a nice day. I spent most of the morning doing online financial stuff, boring but a necessary evil. Did my cardio workout in the early afternoon and that's about it. The weather was beautiful, sunny and low 80's, with cool evenings.

Well, it has now been a month since my stomach issue started. Things I haven't eaten: no burgers, no pizza, no pasta with marinara or cheesy sauces, no beef or pork, very little of anything sweet, and only 1 beer which didn't sit well at the time although I didn't get sick. Talk about withdrawls! 🤪 Stepped on the scale today and I was at 158lbs, only a pound and a half up from my lowest point. I'm eating too frickin healthy and it's killing me! What I wouldn't give for a big old pizza or a steak! On the positive side, I haven't bought a take-out meal in a month so my VISA bill should be substantially lower!

Hope everyone has a great evening!

Gorgeous weather next five days & Sunday has shaped up to be the best of the next five w/ a daytime temp of 75°F. I have one serious adjustment to make on one end of the center sistered joist - too high ~1". It's a half-cut I made into the end which holds/rests/supports that joist onto a perpendicular cross beam. I'll need to remove some exterior boarding to gain access to the end half-cut, raise that joist end & remove ~1" from its bottom w/ the sawzall. Two steps forward one step back.

Good morning everyone.

Ah, break time. I've done so much work this morning. Four wheels signed. We didn't have parts, and the robot is broke. Should be a great day. The lead is back but he has yet to approve my time off. I'm not giving him much longer before I say something to him. He doesn't want that.

It is going to be beautiful weather here as well. I think rain on Sunday. I've got tons to do inside and out, it will be nice to have a couple extra days to do something.

Chris after a month I'd think you could ease back into some of your favorite foods. You could start with that bacon sandwich. I don't even remember 158lbs.

Jamesbo that's a pretty smart truck.

Okay gonna go for a walk. Have a great day everyone.

Mike - I recall this same scenario when a lead had your time off request and did nothing with it until last minute. Douche nozzle.

Cut my 1/2 cuts from end of joist but not lowering. Don’t like fighting it this early in the day.

Norm - Do you have an idea yet as to what is impeding it from lowering after you made the cuts?

Joist has been lowered. Door picked up, inside man-cave, un-crated & to my astonishment it is cut to the correct size.

Chili doggies + onion rings are going to taste delicious if I can convince myself to stop working long enough to make them. Oven preheating for the onion rings.

Norm I hadn't heard that but it's a tremendous deal for the US and Illinois. That place has been there for decades.

Still waiting on the lead to approve my time off. He's standing around talking. I feel like going up to him and interrupting. But that would make me look like the douche bag. Maybe I'll text him and say that's okay, I'll ask the foreman.

Things are picking up but I will finish with a reduced number. Eh, I can only do what I'm given. Strange how some people can stand around and not do work but others can't. I feel like a hamster chewing on my metal cage.

Unfortunately, my 2nd or 3rd bite into an onion ring and a crown came off. My dental office is the best. They'll see me between 3:30 pm - 3:45 pm today to re-cement.

Damn Norm those must have been some serious onion rings! I have a feeling I need a crown but I'm not going in to get one.

Actually Chris that meant that I was going to drop kick the lead in the groin like Norm suggested. Lucky for him he finally approved my time off so he spared himself the pain, humiliation, embarrassment. So, yes, thanks, I will enjoy my time off.

So! Five days off, I hope I make them count. I may even stay up and watch Hogans Heros tonight.

Just got in the house after mowing/trimming. I started about 2pm right after finishing my lifting workout. I'm pooped, dirty, and hungry. Gotta get a shower and then figure out something for dinner. Hope everyone has a great evening! 😃

Mike - Enjoy your time off.

Chris - My dentist & staff are outstanding. No charge for this re-cement. For normal services they do charge modestly more than other dentists. The dental staff handles the insurance billing, adjustments, etc. directly for me. My insurance pays up to a select amount for normal dental procedures, yet my dentist charges a little more than is customary. I make no complaints. I'd prefer to pay just a little more to receive good service from a quality facility.

Jim - Thanks. The dogs, onion rings & pickle spears were delicious. Unfortunately, I had to whoof it all down pronto to make it to the dentist post haste. I have tapioca pudding for dessert - which I will thoroughly enjoy here in just a minute.

The day really did come together quite well, despite having to rush to get a crown re-cemented. He made a small adjustment, as well, which we both believe will help.

Andersen (warrantied) storm door arrived & cut correctly (big win). Lowered the center joist, applied final butyl tape to the area I left unattended until I lowered that joist & I'm nearly ready to lay down some planks - finally. The entire substructure is physically done. I was hoping to figure out the alignment & spacing of the deck planks, but the dentist took priority - so, I pulled up shop & put my equipment away for the night. I'll likely walk about for an hour tomorrow morning, coffee in hand, convincing myself where/how to address/determine where best to start laying wood. I'm likely way over the top on my thinking - but, I want to ensure the fewest number of board cuts and ensure they're aligned straight end-to-end. Location(s) of the newel posts & overhangs make it a challenge to get an many board feet as I can and manipulate the fewest number of cuts. I have a large 4' long drywall square & a laser level to assist me in finding a square surface. It will take all of a five pound box of stainless steel 4" decking screws (roughly 300 screws); and, the retentive worker I am, I'll be drilling & countersinking all 300 screws.

I don't think I"ve seen a chopped m-1 or knew they existed.

Good morning all. Another warm day in the 80's but fall is on its way they say. We've had an extended summer here. I think fall arrrived weeks ago but summer kept kicking it out. I too have a trip to the dentist for the usual clean and polish. I"ll prepare spatchcock chicken on the weber. I'll take the backbone and the inards and make a batch of broth as well. Be safe everyone.

Good morning everyone.

Oh how nice to sleep in during the week. And I get to do it tomorrow, too. Beautiful morning, I need to get moving so I can get something done.

Jamesbo not being a gun person, what does that do? I thought the point of a rifle was for the bullet to twist as it exited and it went farther.

Got a list of things to do, better get to them. Hope everyone has a good day.
