Norm - I have to tell ya, for the first time in a long time, I was thoroughly impressed with all the kids who were helping out all day in that 104° heat! No matter who it was, it was please and thank you, yes sir and yes ma'am, and all with a smile on their face the entire day. Gave me new hope for my grandkids in the future!
Jim - The 60's thru early 70's Rock will always be my favorite music. Come to think of it, pretty much coincides with the true Muscle Car Era, also my favorite cars.
Wow, it's only 67° here at 0910. Raining right now and supposed to continue on and off all day. One thunder boomer, and Monty shot out of bed and has taken refuge at my side on the couch. Momma and Maggie are taking advantage of the great sleeping weather and are still in bed after a late night of watching "her shows". I'm thankful there are plenty of shows we like to watch together on TV, and I'm not subjected to some of the stuff she likes. Also, it's not like there's only one TV in the house.
BIL has his kidney cancer surgery this Thursday. I'm taking my wife to her brother's house early in the morning, and she is going to ride with them to the hospital and stay with his wife all day for support. I will come home and care for the dogs all day, then go to pick her up when she's ready to come home. We just found out a couple days ago my wife's next surgery will be October 19th. She's glad it's that far out so it doesn't interfere with her summer plans.
Well that's enough of my rambling, I'm sure you're all bored to tears! 😢
Hope everyone has a great day!
Big weather event in St. Louis this morning made the National News, that's how I found out about it. A very heavy front moved directly over the heart of the City (30-miles north of me) this morning dumping 6 to as much as 11-inches of recorded rainfall in a matter of a couple of hours. Major highways were flooded and several motorist rescues occurred. Crazy stuff, sure glad I was not up there!
From local news source:
"St. Louis shattered its rainfall record for any day as 8.70 inches had been observed through 8 a.m. CDT Tuesday, with most of this rain falling within a five-hour time frame. This broke the previous record set 107 years ago as the moisture from what was left of the Galveston Hurricane of 1915 pounded the city on Aug. 20 of that year.. Some rainfall amounts over a foot were reported elsewhere as downpours continued to plague the area."

Chris, Chevy 2500 4X4 after 320,000 miles the old one went TANGO UNIFORM I'm pretty sure the injectors went south and fouled up the catalytic convertor. Actually I KNOW the injectors went bad, I'm guessing the final nail was the convertor getting messed up from the injectors. IMHO it would have not been wise to replace the injectors on and engine [pull heads etc] with that many miles
since I never turn on the radio or speed control, I wasn't about to pay 70k for a new truck with a truck screen
Jim - Sorry to hear that! I know I'll never have a new truck again. Gonna run the one I have into the ground and hope it outlasts me. For what it's worth, putting a new engine in is probably a very wise move!
There was a bear cub sighting in our basement today!
My wife just put this up for sale online today, a simply beautiful effort! Wish she had 200 antique tea carts like this one, I could forget about inflation or winning the lotto!
Chris, I was wondering if that storm hit you or not, good to know that it missed you. The woodgrain on that tea cart is really nice.
Dan - The strongest band of that storm (+12-inches) passed only 10-miles north of us in Arnold, MO. Here we probably only got about 4-inches. It was a steady heavy rain here for several hours but didn't seem severe. Funny how much of a difference just a few miles can make! Yes, the wooden top on the tea cart is very pretty. It is a very pretty stain she put on it, kind of a dark cherry, you can see the red in it, especially in the light.
Jim has recently made some great observations and posted some videos of 60's music classics. You can find some wonderful classics today that will take you back to the very best of your childhood, and I see most of them coming from the "Country" genre. Check out this song if you have time, I think it will really take you back. It's titled "Hippie Radio". Just for a little back story intro, my Dad had a Pontiac, not "on the beiger side of yellow", but it was gold.
Glad my boss fired a now ex employee. This one was annoying,I worked beside him and he drove me nuts.My other co workers could not stand him either, said he was a PITA.Plus we worked on fixing his screw ups,his comeback rate was high.Racist towards me too, called me a **** a few times.Called me the offensive words a person with dwarfism hates.Boss fired him this morning after he came in
Hello all! Chris- WOW I saw the St Louis flood on TV, glad it didn't affect you. Jim, looks like a big job, though I am glad I'm not doing it your picture brings up some sorta fond memories of big driver projects from years ago. Wifey and I are going to see the new Top Gun today, Then tomorrow going to see Elvis in Houghton Lake. (Jeff, have you been to the Pines Theater? If not you need to take the family- really cool!) And then we plan to see another movie next week I can't remember the name of. Yeah 3 years worth of movies in 2 weeks! I heard I couldn't miss these 3 they are so good, we'll see. Gonna go to the Clare County fair on Fri nite, Tractor pulls , but usually the most fun part of the fair is watching the people, can be quite entertaining! Sure love the summer!!!
Chris, A dear friend of mine also had a Monty. He fell in the pool one day and I had to dive in a get him out. sunk like a brick. Later his wife had Elvis. She took him to work everyday in her beauty salon. I'm convinced the poor guy died from a O.D. of hair spray
Hello all!

Greg - Yep, we really dodged a bullet by just a few miles, still counting my lucky stars. Sounds like you and your wife have some nice plans lined up, I'd like to see both Top Gun and Elvis! Have fun!

Jim - Luckily you were there to save the day for your friend's Monty. From what I have read, most English Bulldogs cannot swim, or are very poor swimmers. I really do not know the science of why? Ours have never been in water over chest height. We have a chest height kidde pool we fill up for them in the summer to splash around in that they love. Too bad about Elvis. I don't know about an O.D. of hairspray killing him, but I know one thing for sure, if I had to sit in a damn beauty salon everyday I'd sure as hell want to die!
A coworker had two Bulldogs that both drowned in the pool. He also said they can’t swim and sink like a rock. I trained my dogs where the steps are and have a visible indicator that is readily seen from water level. One dog did not appreciate being put into the pool and afterwards would go inside when we got in the pool and just watch through the patio door. I was OK with that.
This is what monsoon season in Arizona looks like. WooHoo, double digit temperatures!
And there’s actual cloud cover so no broiling sunshine. Another woohoo!
I didn’t even have to wear sunglasses while walking the dogs at 7am this morning.

Yes, The Pines is a very nice old theater, back to the days when the local theater had just one screen and a traditional seating layout. We saw Ready Player One there, and I don't recall too many people being there for the show. I've seen Top Gun: Maverick, you will not be disappointed. Cruise made the right call by forcing the film company to hold it for theatrical release.
We had an old one screen movie theater in our student center at Vandy, so I have seen the original Top Gun on film on the big screen circa 2002. Sloped floor, red seats, wood backs. Also saw Rocky Horror, Gone With the Wind, and several other classics or films deemed classics.
My sister is in St. Louis and said the rain is immense but she is ok.
Canis Domesticus, the domestic dog, has many variations that could be considered sub species. An English Bulldog can't swim because he is too dense for his volume. They are little chunks, and bred that way on purpose, so his buoyancy is less than water and he will not float. His only choice is to pull himself up out of the water with each stroke, and the doggie paddle is not suitable for that.

John - Thanks for the scientific explanation. I certainly believe the "density" explanation! They're not very tall, not very long, but just go and try to pick one up and it's like hoisting a 60-lb. bag of concrete!
The first time we brought Dublin the Pug out to the water at the cottage, he wouldn't step foot into the lake. I picked him up to lower him in (just pug knee height), and as I got him about a foot away from the water, he started dogpaddling in mid air. That dog is always making me laugh.
He's never waded in further than belly-deep, so we don't know if he can swim or not. He sure does love boat rides, and last trip up, he took his first kayak ride.
Day off of work.Found out my boss got a call last night his mom is not doing well.Went school shopping for my son,he will be a junior this upcoming school year.Plus I am proud of him, said he has plans after high school figured out already.Said he either wants to enlist in the military or go to college.

Jeff -.Just curious, do you have a doggy life jacket for Dublin just in case he falls into the water?
Slow going today, at least for me. My wall guy has got to be the slowest ever, and I don't think has any plans to get better. I'm debating whether or not to say anything to him, or let the lead figure it out. Right now we have 20 wheels, I think everyone else is over 30.
Jamesbo is the trans the same age as the engine, or have you had it worked on previously? Don't worry, there are crate trans' as well.
Tiger likes playing in the water, but I don't think he'd be a big swimmer. Shepherds don't normally like water anyway. If I had a pool his enjoyment would be drinking the water.
It's been a few years since I've been to the movie theater. Last time I was there it was the 50th anniversary showing of Bullitt. Before that, the 40th anniversary of Smokey and the Bandit. I saw that one in the theater first run. Before that, probably the Dukes of Hazzard movie around 05.
Been hot here, but not single digit hot. Rain this weekend I think. I haven't gotten anything done in weeks. I should just put everything in a dumpster then move into an apartment.
Okay back to work. You know, I get paid the same amount of dollars whether I sign of one wheel or a hundred. But it's frustrating to be stuck with someone who doesn't give a damn.
Yes, he had his life jacket on for the kayak ride. Boat rides were in the pontoon, so we didn't have to worry about him getting over the fence.
Jeff - That's cool, I wouldn't want to take mine out on the water without life jackets for sure. I can understand how they'd be fine on a pontoon though. My brother had special vests for his German Shorthair Pointers when they'd go duck hunting. They served a dual purpose, providing some buoyancy, and insulating the dog from the cold.
Kenneth - You’re overjoyed with temperature understandably, but single digits you say?
Yeah, apparently my fingers got a bit too happy when typing and put single instead of double. At this point either of those is more desirable than triple.

Been getting ready for an event on Saturday, speaking out to kids with disabilities encouraging them.A good friend of mine knows I have pituitary dwarfism and knows what I have been through.Been told I cannot do that by haters and proved them wrong. One was I cannot drive and do.Son is going to introduce me out whom sees me like any normal mom
Man, it's humid. Got home and got moving on the work on my Monte Carlo. The water pump bearing is failing. Also, the original radiator has got more funk than George Clinton. Hoses and belts are 20 years old. I put a 160 deg stat in as a bandaid. I have 2 water pumps, new belts, hoses, a NOS radiator, and a 180 deg superstat stant. Will also remove old plastic fuel filter on pressure side as that is dumb. I think the power tour in 2018 did it in. Car has been off the road for a couple years.
We went and saw Top Gun Maverick yesterday, yes it is as good as they say, Just a lot of fun. I recommend highly. Still waiting on correct yoke for Olds, Got motor mounts, exhaust manifold gaskets and turn signal switch done. Also changed oil, filter and lubed and rotated tires, looked at brakes, basically a good going over. Looks good. I volunteered to be a guy who goes to talk to dying folks (Hospice). My neighbor lady has been doing it for a couple years and says it is really rewarding. They really need men so I volunteered. At first I thought I would never want to meet, get to like, then lose a new friend that way, but I'm gonna try it. Anyway, I have to go get fingerprinted to be a volunteer for the hospice organization. Last time I was fingerprinted was when I was in the Navy.
Greg, X2. We had the lady who was head of the hospice workers Assoc visit a few years ago. She said "Even though 99.99% of the people who enter hospice care don't come out. The hardest thing to do is to get the families to make final arrangements" Tough job I admire you
Coming up on break and we're smoking yesterday's number already! I have 7 completed and yesterday at this time I think I was at 4. No stopping us now.
Greg good on you. Probably the most important time in a person's life when they need a kind word.
Car lady I'm going to go out on a limb here, do you have pituitary dwarfism?
I really need to do something about a lawn mower. So far anonymous, kind neighbors have been doing some mowing for me, but I need to get it together. Also need to plant some grass in bare spots over at Mom's.
Okay break. Hope everyone is having a good day. One more to go.
