Serpentine belt installation took all of 10 minutes. Reinstalling the fan took ~1/2 hour. Diffuser is constantly in the way, finding the threads is a hassle - argh. Still don't have the fan nut torqued. Thunderboomers in the area. Weather alert >70mph - 80mph winds possible tornadoes in area. Calling it a day.

Soaked my hands in kerosene for 20 minutes, brake fluid for 20 minutes, carburetor cleaner for 10 minutes followed by a light dusting of pure sea salt - man up.

John, love that Monte. I really like the 70-72. Hated the 73 on up, but seems everyone else liked them. Especially 76-77's they were everywhere, butt ugly! Norm, of course the A/C compressor is down low and hard to get to, sounds like you got 'er handled.

Greg - Have to remove the tire/wheel and inner fender to reach it. Three bolts hold the AC compressor to the block. One bolt can only be reached with a box-end wrench & that bolt has to be slid into the AC compressor bolt hole prior to installation then the AC compressor slid into position for assembly to the block. It's like holding a venomous snake by its head while you pick it up by its tail.

Good morning everyone.

What a great weekend. Didn't work any overtime. Got lots done around the house(s). Very relaxing. A guy from the Amphicar club I hadn't seen in years came over and we had lunch and we looked at all my stuff.

Jamesbo that's too bad about your friend. Did he have COPD when he bought the lot or was he just being prepared?

Norm my expression is I have to take half the car apart to fix something. You are actually on your way to doing that. Does the man cave have AC?

By the way I'm now an astronaut.

Okay wheels coming in. Hope everyone has a good day and good start to the week. Happy August!

No AC in man-cave. The truck is in the driveway. Too much rain soggy soil when it was towed to get it into the man-cave. Heat has been brutal. Oh well...time marches on.

Got the 64 out of the garage for the first drive of the year. Where the he** does the time go? Is it any wonder why I need to sell this car? My younger son and I did a pass thru town, then stopped at the local burger joint where the older son was working. No leaks from the power steering system anymore -- man that was driving me crazy getting the return line to seat properly. My town absolutely stinks for cruise-in's, need to do some research and find out whereabouts there might be a few.

Jeff - Good for you in getting your car out, it's a beautiful car! Shame you don't have more events going on around you. I'm lucky, the St. Louis area really seems to be a "Classic Car Town", with some event (usually multiple) happening every weekend. I've had my car out 18-times already this summer counting shows and cruise-ins, and that's not counting other miscellaneous trips with my wife to the DQ. No one can say my car is a garage queen!

August is a big month for Back to the Bricks (I'll go) and Woodward Dream Cruise (NO WAY, too many cars, turns into a giant parking lot) here in MI, but you'd think that there would be more cars 'n coffee events around here, considering Flint is "Vehicle City". With my summer weekends booked for up north at the cottage, making it to anything on a weekend locally is difficult. Guess I'll just refresh my ad and get something into a classic auto trader site, now that the power steering has been sorted and the car is back on the street.

Jeff - I sure understand your situation when you have a cottage on a lake to go to on summer weekends. I sure miss mine that I had on a beautiful river in southern Missouri until I got bought out of it as part of my divorce in 2008. Such is life, miss the cottage, sure as hell don't miss my ex! Much happier these days!

I'm not familiar with "Back to the Bricks", I'll have to look it up. I've got some pics of my car in front of Vinsetta Garage on Woodward given to me by the previous owner.

Back to the Bricks is the Flint extension of the Woodward Dream Cruise, for those of us that don't want to deal with that crowd.

Found a local cruise-in for tonight, but weather is going to be sketchy this afternoon. Will see if things get better, because it would work out to take the 6-FO! to the event because we have to take the younger son to driver's training class that is less than a mile from the cruise-in.

Jeff, I've been to the Bricks a couple of times, the last being about 6 years ago, can't get my car buddy to go again. I'm with Greg on the Monte's, I like the first gen. '70-72 models, but not the rest of the 70's models, nor the first downsized ones. A friend of my brothers picked me and a buddy (yep my long term car buddy) on the way home from the seventh grade in his mom's new '70 Monte Carlo. Triple black, it rode really nice. I still need to make it to the Vinsetta Garage. Jeff, how far are you from Hickory Corners? The Red barns Spectacular is this Saturday. I'll be there.

From a show that I was at Friday. This was at the staging area in Whitehall, Mi. people start gathering at about 3:30pm. At 7pm they start moving them out to head to Montague, Mi. a whole mile away, where they line the streets there with the cars. That is also where they have the concessions set up. I took my previous '71 Supreme there a couple of times.https://photos.app.goo.gl/KRqSBg7Xu4Mgcwiw8

Dan - Great pics, lots of sharp cars there, thanks for sharing! My favorites, the yellow Buick GS vert, the '67 gold Cutlass, and the the 2 GTO Judges.

WAY too far. I'm 10 minutes directly south of Flint, and can be downtown in about 15 minutes. I hope we have nice weather that week, so that I can park it somewhere with the for sale signs in it.

Back in the old days, We used to have some politicians we labeled "Hardy Perennials'

They'd just pop up around election time. One of my favorite's was Mugsy Smith. His signs simple said "Vote for Mugsy" In the interest of thrift, He used the exact same sign to run for city council Mayor and state representative

Good morning everyone.

Good start to the day, no bearings. At least I got my good wall guy and robot guy back.

Jamesbo how's the Jeep running today?

Chris how is the bro-in-law?

Today I'm a riverboat captain.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Mike, It's in the mountains. Gonna yank the carb Saturday or Sunday, Stay tuned. I suspect some of the old gas made it's way into the carb

According to Donny, it's nothing but a big lawn mower carb

Mike - Thanks for asking! He's doing better, and got to go home yesterday. They kept him a couple extra days to make sure he didn't have another heart episode. We still have not heard an explanation of what they think caused it. No news yet either on when they're going to deal with the issue with the other kidney.

Thought I would drop in and say hi, looks like things are normal here (hectic), just like mine. Today I need to clean out the garage. That is move the 55 out of the way, so I can remove and load my washing machine that died last week, dryer died the week before. May not be able to load the washing machine by my self, just barely made the dryer, well see, may have to think about this awhile, where is my engine hoist when I need it? All kinds of family stuff going on, I need a road trip and get out of here for a while, I'm beginning to be a grump, worse than normal. I just stopped in to vent and bitch, if the washing machine goes in easy I'll be a happy camper and back to just a pain in the ***....Tedd

Because I worked in "The business" for my entire career, I have been watching the news on the assassination of Al Queda terrorist al-Zawahiri closely because it interests me. During the reporting I heard there had been a detailed, to-scale model made of the residence he was residing at in Kabul, Afghanistan when he was killed. I would bet my monthly check who built that model. Among the 100's of types of soft and hard copy products they produce to support the DoD and IC, the Ageny I worked for also specialized in producing detailed, to-scale models to aid in planning for warfighters and national decision makers. Here's an interesting read on the model built for planning the Osama Bin Laden raid.

Honestly, I don't know. I'm sure the famous one's like the Bin Laden one that have been declassified are preserved for historic reasons. Separate topic from 3-D models, but the onboard radar system from the Space Shuttle (SRTM / STS-99) mapping project I was a major contributor to is on display in the Smithsonian Aerospace Museum.

The original donk is an Impala. That's what the term means, donk, the impala badge looks like a donkey. I do understand it is later specialized to what you said. But, yes, the ideal rap man's car is a 64 Impala like Boys in the Hood. There's a story behind selling new cars in California and how the blacks made sure, somehow, that the first one went to a black man as a win for the civil rights movement. I think Medgar Evers was involved.

Anyway, 64 Impalas are important to that scene.

Good news, hope you continue to have good check ups. Not sure if I had a favorite from the show, but that '65 98 'vert was nice. I talked to the owner of the yellow '66? Wildcat for about 15 minutes, nice guy, about ten years older than me, the car came from an estate, and was pretty nice. Also talked to the white Riviera owner a '68 I believe, powered by the 430 Wildcat engine. Chris, remind me not to **** you off, the last thing that I need is a drone strike to make my day.

Dan - It was a very interesting and rewarding place to work, and I was always proud of my contributions to giving our warfighters and decision makers the products they needed to give them an advantage over our adversaries. +35-years was definitely enough though, pretty stressful during times of crisis. I don't miss the job, but miss some of the people.
