Mike - I am not certain, but I believe the one in my front yard is different from most of the pictures you see of the one's in D.C. I think most of the pictures you see of the one's in D.C. are regular fruit bearing Cherry trees simply because of their larger size, but I don't know for sure.

I'll be darned if it wasn't absolutely gorgeous w/ Edelweiss blooming on every hillside. Another day trip we visited the Hohenwerfen castle - we visited lots of castles that summer.

Here's a queer bit of nostalgia for you. In H.S. I acted in H.S. stage productions of Oliver! & Fiddler On the Roof. After H.S. our community put on a theatrical performance of Mary Poppins. I played a chimney sweep.

Chris - Evidently Dawn inspired me to slow cook a pork tenderloin - now in the slow cooker until tomorrow.
Norm - It is so cool you have been able to travel abroad as much as you have, great memories I'm sure. I would love to see the Austrian Alps!

Here's a bit of movie trivia you might be interested in? The Sound of Music won the Academy Award for Best Picture for movies released in 1965. Do you know what other very critically acclaimed movie lost out to it? Although two completely different genres of movies, musical vs. drama, Dr. Zhivago lost out. Dr. Zhivago in my opinion is far superior, one of my all time favorites.

Dawn got a big chuckle about your Pork Roast comment. I already want another one. Maybe I can parlay your comment into one.

Hi guys,

Lots going on, head is spinning, who's on first, what's on second!

Fencing guy came today to document damage and create an estimate for repairs. He said he should have it to me by Wednesday.

Got Keegan`s hockey game tonight.

Dawn has a dentist appointment tomorrow morning that I have to go to and review her Account with their Billing person so that we don't get screwed on the insurance coverage for her crown work.

I have a dentist appointment on Wednesday morning and Gabe has a game Wednesday evening.

I also have an appointment to get a State Emmissions Inspection done on Thursday that is required to renew the plates on the SUV by the end of April. Pending a successful pass of the inspection, I can do the rest of the plate/tabs renewal online and the State will mail them to me.

Right now I have to start my daily workout.

I think by Friday, this week will be one big blur!

They're both great films, but one is essentially a family movie, and one is a tragedy. They appeal to different people.

Speaking of Julie Andrews indirectly, I grew up in central FL so I am familiar with the House of Mouse, enough that I joke that MCO Orlando International is Mouse Country, even though it was McCoy AFB. For some reason, my mother and sister and I went and spent a night in the old Contemporary Resort in the Magic Kingdom. My sister, who gets randomly too cool for school, decided she wanted to go back to the room, so my mother and I watched Spectral Magic, which was the 90s/2000s woke name for the old Electric Light Parade. My mother went to the can, so I sat down on the curb to wait for her and watched the floats go by for the big shows. They have employees dress up like the characters. So, a lady in Victorian dress walking on the left side of the parade with her umbrella (Mary Poppins) saw me sitting alone and gave me what had to have been a couple kilowatt smile. Talented performer. I can't summon that kind of cheer on demand. Off she went.

I agree 100%, I love them both!

Neat story about seeing the Mary Poppins character, sounds like a special memory for sure! 👍

Greg, you are right about the weather. What a mess from the ice storm. I lost power for a couple of hours, and a local school had the roof blow off of the gym. I lose power a couple of times a year, considering getting a generator, really just to keep the fridge running. Another system may hit us Wednesday. Hell, I thought that Australia was Aus., so I figured you were right with AU being Austria, Norm. I did some research a couple of years ago, and there are more folks in Austria with my surname than in Germany.

Dan - I read that at one time as many as +300K people were without power. My sister tried to call me yesterday but I was away from my phone. I tried to call her later in the evening and it went to voice-mail. I left a message but didn't hear back from her. Called again this morning but only got voice-mail again. Still haven't heard from her and hoping they're ok?

Chris, you may be able to go to Consumers Energy's outage map on their site, and see if the area is experiencing an outage. I haven't seen much of the news yet as my power went out before the local news came on. I was in bed well before the 11 pm news came on.

Hey guys,

I haven't posted any pics of Dawn's furniture in awhile because she hasn't really finished alot.

The first piece below is a Lane Cedar Chest, kinda boring I know, but still nice, and Lane's are desirable.

I think the second piece is way cool! It's an ammo box that originally contained two 105 mm shells for an M68 Tank Gun on the M60 Series of U.S. Tanks. All she did was put the hairpin legs on it. I think it would make a really cool coffee or accent table in a man-cave.

Dan - I went to the Consumers Power site that also has a search engine that allows you to type in a street address and it provides the status. Apparently she is in a Block of 1,194 customers without power, with an estimated time of restoration of 6:45 this evening. I hope so, as I see it's supposed to get down to about 25° there tonight.

My folks had a huge Lane cabinet. Mom kept all the woolen stuff & maybe good cotton stuff in it (away from moths). Whenever it was opened it smelled exactly like a Cedar tree.

Spent the day digging a 6" deep trench (next to foundation) along half the back (West side) of the house & entire length of South side of the house. Can't recall, I think I applied 15 gals. or 20 gals. of Taurus SC (termiticide) + Neem Oil in the trench(es). I'll need one more container of both to finish the perimeter. So, off to Amazon(ia) I must go.

Tee-time tomorrow 12:30pm.

Pork tenderloin smells delicious. I know it's actually cooked through, but it's going to reside in the slow cooker on the "1" setting overnight. I'll add one-half (9 oz.) container of original 'Old Mule' BBQ Sauce - Marinade - Dipping Sauce to the slow cooker (along w/ all the savory juices already contained in the cooker) and let it marinade all night.

I've owned a Troy-Bilt 5500-Watt Portable Generator generator for 24 years now (for the house). Sucker is loud, but who cares if the power is out. Darn thing starts every time w/o a hitch. I did let it sit too long w/o running some years ago & I had to clean the carburetor as it had accumulated varnish but that was all on me.

That's a lot of ice. We got hailstormed yesterday. Missed me. There is supposed to be more heavy weather Wed.

Worked from home today. I have also been wearing out my scanner and shredder digitizing records and then securely trashing the paper. I need to do this, eliminate fiction authors' works I no longer like, and get to one textbook in any given subject I want to retain. I believe it is time to jettison sociology. I will keep my theater design stuff (I have an unrecognized minor in it) and all engineering and science, of course. I will double up on GM car service manuals, of course, for the years I own.

Broken up squall/front moving through the area next two hours. Doesn't appear to be producing any tornadoes &/or hail...just (hopefully) good ol' thunder boomer storm. I love those type storms...I sleep like a rock.

I miss Florida's thunderstorms. I miss their winter, and their thunderstorms. In central FL, every day, from one coast or the other, at approximately 2-3 pm, a big *** storm would roll in with about 30 min of torrential rain and awesome lightning and thunder. It would leave, and it would be 20 deg cooler for an hour. Hardly ever any hail, no tornadoes.

Up here, there are storms, sometimes, and they often come with 80 mph winds, and/or tornadoes, and/or big hail, and a lot of rain such that flooding is an issue. Sure, we don't get hurricanes, but I miss enjoying thunderstorms instead of wondering "WHAT the wind is blowing" as Ron White says.

I can't understand how so many people up here have no emergency generator. I guess I can understand "city " people but most around central and northern Michigan are in the country or small towns. We used to lose our power often in Ashley area and even more so in Harrison area. Shortly after we were married I realized we needed a generator. And when power went out stores would be sold out... Then they cost about $400.- a fortune in 1985! So went to KMart and "laidaway" a 4000 watt Coleman generator. Figured if power went out we would go get it and pay on charge card, otherwise just pay minimum payment until paid off. Still got it and it has worked great- loud as hell and a pain to hook up and only 1-2 gal tank, but functional.

I played the "Norm card" last night mentioning to Dawn that she had inspired you to slow cook a Pork Roast. Then I slyly said, "I loved your's, when are you going to make another one?" She then said, "You know that a 1/3 of the last one is in the freezer right?" I said no, I didn't know that or I don't remember. So . . . Instant dinner, just add BBQ sauce and heat!
