Recently, I listened to Jim's advice - I raised my home insurance deductible saved tons of $$. I'm thinking I'm going to raise my vehicle deductibles as well. **** 'em all.

The thing about it is most of us really live based upon what we want & not what we need. Yes, we've worked hard to get where we are and we've EARNED our belongings but many (most), me included, don't need half what we own. If it all goes to hell in a basket, I need a roof, food & water. Methodically learning as I get long in the tooth I've spent far too much money insuring belongings I really don't "need" just to make a douche-bag insurance company rob me blind. Phuque 'em.

G'day everyone.

First off, what a beautiful pup. I believe we've seen her before.

Chris I don't envy you having to deal with the insurance companies. They are all crooks. However, when we had our epic hail storm years ago, I actually did make out pretty well. I have State Farm for most all my insurance. Say what you will about SF, they usually treat me right. Except charging me 2K a year for my V6 four door sedan. They said, the Hemi and Hellcats are the most stolen cars. I said, and my car isn't either of them. Swine!

Got half the house cleaned in anticipation for my friend coming this weekend. I'll finish up tomorrow. Today, surprise of all surprises, I'm taking Mom to the doctor. Mom had cataract surgery a couple weeks ago. We had numerous appointments because of that, and now the doctor that set the whole thing up, that had nothing to do with any of it after setting an appointment, wants to see her "to see how they did." Why Mom is even doing it I don't know. Because she didn't ask me that's why. What a crock.

Not much to get excited about today, hope things start up well. The lead is already several minutes late. Hope he brings donuts. Have a good day everyone.

Mike/Greg - Thanks for the support! It ain't anywhere near over yet, I may or may not get a fair settlement, we'll see? My biggest gripe right now is that I shouldn't have to be doing their work for them, but I'm seeing that if I don't there's no way I'm going to get a fair settlement. Window guy is coming today, we'll see how that goes?

Chris - And, I recall when you had some type work done (porch, siding or something) they installed a couple nice sized gouges into the staircase(?) & the contractor took no responsibility to address/fix until you told them to fix their $HIT.

I don't know if it's the agents (agencies) themselves or what. It often appears to me it's a toss of the dice as to the level of service you get.

Norm - That was when the roof was replaced in 2022 and one of the roofers decided that the landing area on the bi-directional staircase from the deck to the backyard would be a good place to cut shingles with a box cutter. AiYiYi, it was like pulling teeth, but I got my money out of them because I had a substantial amount of final payment still due to hold over their head as leverage.

Agreed, it's a role of the dice on how competent individual entities/persons are in the process as a whole.

If my contractor does submit information to that end, then they would send their own representative to collect samples and attempt to make a match themselves and then go from there.
Chris, depending on how long your siding has been on the house you will probably not find a match for your siding. I put siding on my house in 1998 and the siding has faded differently depending on the side of the house. I still have a half a box of the original siding and it does not match any of the siding on the house anymore.

Thanks for your comment. My siding is from 2006, and it is substantially faded on the sides that that get sun all day, so I am in complete agreement with your concern.

I watched Season 1 & Season 3 of 'Reacher'. I finished watching what's available of Season 3. I found/find the episodes entertaining.

I had the frame straightened on my '70 SX almost 50 years ago, turned out fine. Probably depends on the shop that does it.
To add insult to injury, I just got notice today about renewal of my regular auto policies at the end of April. We've had no driving infractions or claims, yet they want to raise the 6-month premium a whopping 20%.
Chris, you have Citizens/Hanover? That's who I have. I don't need an increase in my rates, that's for sure.

One issue that insurance companies forget is that you can't buy "depreciated" stuff. They lowballed the **** out of my grandma's place because it was old. Of course it's old, it's a historic landmark. Nowhere near what it would take to fix it, so we took the money and sold it cheap. That agent deserves a bad end.

The point of insurance is to make you whole. Worn, but functional siding gets replaced with new. Just because you can't buy used siding does not mean they only pay for 1/3 your repair.

I like Reacher, but, like all Hollywood, they're going woke. Reacher bangs chicks; the lead girl is expected to get naked. Why even make them if you're going to half *** it?

Dan - For my regular daily driver SUV and truck I have Progressive right now. I am just coming to the end of my first 6-month period with them. I suspect my initial 6-month Premium was a bait and switch tactic to get me to switch over to them, and now they're jacking it up. It sucks!

Hi everyone.

Had a recurrent class I had to go to today. I don't know why, I don't do the operation the class is for, but my lead doesn't give a damn and won't get me out of it. It's for Eddy Current, and doing non-destructive testing on the ANDEC machine. Short day though, started at 730 and was out by 1230. So a midweek stop at the Awful house and I still got home before I normally would. Now that's over for two years.

I've been reading that insurance companies will raise rates on long term customers because they think they won't change and won't squawk about the increase. So people who jump around a lot(and don't have a lot of claims) will come out better than someone who keeps the same company for years. Sounds odd but all bets are off with insurance companies. They are all crooks. Before I had my current insurance I paid for private insurance, and the premiums kept going up even though I never got sick or had a claim. My agent told me it takes a whole lot of healthy people to pay for one sick person. I cried bullshit. Insurance company make record profits but act like today is their last day in business.

So I'm finishing up my cleaning in anticipation of my friend visiting tomorrow. Then I need to do something outside because it is absolutely beautiful out. Regular work tomorrow. Friend arrives around dinnertime.

Okay have a great afternoon everyone!

Every vehicle in town is painted yellow/green. Saw a huge cloud of Pine pollen depart a large Pine tree this afternoon. I was at the dentist @ 8:00am, spent a couple hours spot spraying the landscape & managed to get ~1.5 hrs. on the driving (golf) range.

I have Progressive right now.
I had them about four years ago, low at first, and then bam! up went my rates. Mike, that's what happened with State Farm, my rates just kept going up every year, and there was always an excuse. I pay about $1000 less a year between my car and home since I left them. Jim, dang it on the kidney transplant. Did they come up with a plan B, or are you stuck with dialysis from now on? Been getting beat up by a nasty cold bug of some sorts, fighting it since Saturday, missed Monday/Tuesday, I was feeling better today, but on the way home I became nauseous and crappy. More thera-flu for me. Hoping that the weather dries out for a couple of days, so I can get the 'vert out of storage..

Hi guys,

I've been deeply thinking about what Norm said about having all kinds of $hit we don't really need, and I think he's really on to something. I'm pretty sure I've found the answer to my home damage repair woes. Just got to get Dawn to buy in?

Truly amazing period of policy longevity! Do you check at least every year to make sure you're not getting screwed?

Hey guys,

I spent my whole morning documenting and responding to issues dealing with the home damage and repairs. I won't bore you with all the minutia. The biggest development is my Insurer is sending an Assessor tomorrow to do what is termed an "Eye Test" to determine whether a Siding match can be accomplished that "would not be to the detriment of the homes appeal and value". This will be critical in determing whether my insurer changes course, and agrees to a total Siding replacement, or stay their current course of a piecemeal replacement approach. My personal opinion is that I can't see how there is any way in Hell that a match can be made to 18-yr old siding that shows differing degrees of weathering due to sun and weather exposure on the various orientations of the home! I don’t like it, but I have to play the game. If the results are not in my favor, my next step will be to contact my Mortgage company and inform them, because they have still have considerable skin in this game.

Hope everyone has a great evening.

Good morning everyone.

Jamesbo good luck with that. Sounds like they need to redo it.

Friday. Seems like it's been a long week. That class yesterday didn't help. I have great expectations for the weekend.

Chris if the insurance company just won't replace all the siding, insist that they match what's left. Perhaps they can get the vinyl siding people to custom match the faded look. That wouldn't be expensive.

Breaktime. Things are going fairly well so far. Except I only have 4 wheels. Eh, can't sign what I don't have. Have a good Friday everyone.

I have MEEMIC insurance on my daily drivers and house/barn and a umbrella on land. (MEEMIC is insurance offered to current and former state employees- Wife was a school bus driver) Have Hagerty for Olds and F100. Yep prices have increased for sure. I was so impressed though, I bought this house needing a roof, when shingles started blowing off I called a roofer. He said ask for new roof thru house insurance. He was right they paid 16,000 for a 17,000 new roof- $1000. deductible pretty happy with that. Though I'll bet I paid way over $16,000 in premiums over the last 30 years!.

Mike - Long week, yes and no for me. Long in that each day was painful/stressful, but short in that where did it go, everything is a blur?

in regard to the Siding, that's why someone is coming today to try and determine in "their" opinion on whether a match can be made. I imagine there is probably some Siding Company out there that is capable of doing custom matching to my old siding, but it would have to be custom matched for different sides of the home because of the differing amounts of sun/weather exposure on each side which I'm sure would be very expensive. I think the only way the home is going to look right is to replace it all. We'll see?

Jim - I sure hope they can get it fixed for you soon. Constant pain of that magnitude really wears you down. I feel for you brother and you're in our prayers! 🙏
