Fired up the grill this evening and made supper. I have become a fan of grill baked potatoes Rubbed olive oil then sprinkled kosher salt. Sirloin filet and fresh asparagus spears.
Mike, i don't remember, I'm stull trying to remember where the extra set of heads came from. I LOOKED at them after you left and they are D [just kidding in my dreams]
Were only going to see a partial eclipse where I'm at, and it should be starting soon. They're calling for another 5.75" of rain between now and the weekend for us, I don't think the fields can take it right now. I got another 150 trees planted earlier in the month. (Chestnut oak, and shagbark hickory ) those should put us at 1000 plus that we planted by hand.. THere are also easily 150 volunteer pines that have come up, and are outpacing all of my hardwoods. Ive been trying to get to where I can start the 64 for the first time, but I just cannot find the time. Been sanding on the truck trying to get it close to being right. There is a weather dependent window to get it painted so all of my energies are there....
I think we are going to get a short trip up to DC this summer, and may take some personal time and explore Virginia, maybe around Roanoke, and maybe another section of the Blue ridge parkway... Looking forward to that
Matt - Really nice you planted Chestnut Oak & Shagbark Hickory - I love both. Yeah volunteer Pines rapidly outpace anything around them - I can relate. You're nearly due West of me (Beaufort, NC). Shenondoah Valley, Virginia is a favorite - borders Blue Ridge Parkway. I haven't been to Luray Caverns but heard it's nice. Sounds like a nice trip you have planned.
The eclipse was a non-issue until we got out of work. It was noticeably "darker" out, and darker yet when I got home. Then it started to lighten and it was pretty much over. Pretty cool. Mom said the birds kept flying into the back windows.
So work, as usual, no one was in a hurry and we missed the mark. Couldn't have been by too many. The lead of course had to feign shitty and didn't come to us until right at 230. Which means we are late getting out, and sitting in unnecessary traffic. He goes on about how we need to do better but has this smirk on his face. Glad it's all a joke to him.
So the first Summit cruise in tonight. It's nice out so should be a good turnout. Someone wanted to see the yellow 67 442 that has the crazy stripes all over it. I'll try to get a picture if it's there. Don't remember if I saw it at all last year.
Well the pressure is off, Monday is over. Hope the rest of the week goes well, got lots to do. Have a good evening everyone.
Mike - Hope there's a nice turnout at Summit and that you have a nice time!
Kenneth - Very nice pics of the eclipse, we could not get any decent ones on our cell cameras even with some filters on them.
Norm - Glad the Gorilla Lift is working out great for you.
Wife and I were a little disappointed in the eclipse. We both thought the 2017 one here was more spectacular. It was still cool to look at with the filtered glasses on.
Those aren't direct pictures of the eclipse. I mounted my binoculars on a tripod and focused the image onto a white board, and took pictures of the projected images.

Kenneth - That's a very ingenious technique! Very nice! Wished I'd known about that, it would have been an easy set-up with my 60x spotting scope and tripod. Maybe if I make it to the next one???
Rain when I woke up this morning. No wonder Tiger didn't want to go out all night. Gonna rain most of the rest of the week.
Summit was unbelievable last night. I'd say over 300 cars. Parked every which way. Two Oldsmobiles. Both 69 Cutlass, neither one was blue.
Things seem to be moving right along here at work. The lead will come out in a few minutes. I don't get these guys who have to work every minute of overtime. I did that one summer, made an enormous amount of money. But one time I had to skip a day, and my next paycheck was exactly the same. Tell me that ain't some screwed up taxing.
Took Thursday, Friday, and Monday off. Ended up working enough hours from home on Thursday to save the vacation day. Cleaned house Thurs and Fri. Cooked Saturday, lasagna made and in the fridge, persimmon pudding, then made pizza as my friends showed up.
Gave them pizza, salad, and persimmon pudding for Friday. Saturday, we got in my 73 Ford Club Wagon, and went to the new location for cars and coffee. It was huge. We saw a bunch of H/OCA members, so we got a ten person photo; it was good we went. Had a non-authentic Mexican lunch, then went to antique mall and record store. Meanwhile, my friend had a fender from a modern day Lincoln as part of his side gig that he brought down here for sale, so we met the guy there. My other friend, his wife, decided we needed to make a dessert, so I volunteered my mom's cheesecake recipe. Got supplies and a 9 inch springform pan although the recipe calls for 10 inch. Went home, made it, put it to chill. Cooked the lasagna and ate it.
Got up Monday, I worked on my stereo while he called it to work for a meeting and she ran some. Convened at 11 or so, I grilled cheeseburgers and baked some frozen fries. Had lunch on my concrete picnic table with new umbrella. Eclipse started at 12:30. Totality was for 3 min and 16 seconds at 2:06 or so. Sky was 5% cloudy, had a great sightline on my driveway. We had seen the 2017 eclipse and saw the horizon better in that field, but this event was darker. It was almost completely dark and was a great experience. Temperature dropped 20 degrees, wildlife shut up, the lighting looked like the slow fades I used to do as a lighting designer. It was back to done at 3:20.
We then loaded my liquor cabinet, which was going to be a record cabinet, into my friends' Jeep and they bought it from me. We were going to go for a walk, but a mutual friend has a gas globe body for sale that my buddy wanted so, since my truck is a 2 seater, my Tahoe is dead, my van was offsite at that time, along with the Monte Carlo, the 442 is dead, and the cabinet was on the back seats in their Jeep, so we took the H/O for a drive. Saw friend, bought globe body, came home, cooked meatloaf and macaroni, ate it. Tried to demo some CD-4 and reel quad sound to my friend, but my system had two issues and we were running late. Got up early today and they were out at 6 am.
I have tons of leftovers for a while, and I used my dishwasher a LOT. Good weekend.
Automatic dishwasher is one of the greatest inventions.

I dishwash a lot of things that take up a big size, so sometimes not much goes through per load. If it can fit in there, and is dishwasher safe, I will usually hand wish then auto wash.
I bough a pair of stainless steel colanders with solid bowls. Great to pour cooked stuff into to drain.

Reminds me of a story my brother-in-law told of a co-worker who worked so much overtime he got bumped into the next tax bracket and cleared like $20 more than if he hadn't worked any overtime. Boy howdy was he pissed.
I got an odd email from Scot Hardman, had to do with tinnitus. Anybody else get one? He may have been hacked. Eclipse was cool, got home, had a look at it (with proper glasses), saw just a sliver of a crescent sun, and then I put my trash out, had another look, and thought, cool! It got sorta dim, more of a low light filter. I had my sunglasses on the way home, and arrived home at about 3:15pm. For as little sun as there was, I expected it to be darker outside. We were @ about 94% totality. Kenneth, we did something like that way back in grade school, circa 1966-67.

I don't do much O.T. anymore, my back don't like it. We are so busy at work, that they just instituted a contest open to all hourly workers to entice us/them to work more. You have to work 50 hours a week to have a shot at winning a new car, with second place getting a $10k paid vacation. I haven't looked into the details as I am not going to participate, so I'm not sure how long this will last, a year, then a drawing? I should ask.

Here's one for ya! For 2-years following 9/11, I had to work several hundreds of hours of mandatory overtime. There is a Federal regulation that states something to the affect that no Federal employee can make more than a U.S. Senator. So, when you've been paid overtime to the point where your remaining regular pay for the rest of the calendar year would have you making more than a Senator, they are allowed to not pay you overtime, regardless of the fact you are being forced to. I got screwed out of hundreds of hours of overtime because of that regulation, and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it unless I wanted to quit. Just plain sucked!

Slow but smooth work today, we finished around 2 and got out. Yesterday he mentioned something about working Saturday but didn't say anything about it today.
So the senators view themselves at the top of the food chain. I think they view themselves as better than God. Chris when stuff like that happens at my work the mechanics convince themselves that an alternate form of compensation is in order. Glass cleaner, WD40 or similar, loose hardware and the like seem to follow people home. Moreso than usual. I don't know what you guys would have appropriated. Staples maybe.
Hm Scot Hardman. That's a name from the past. Wish he wouldn't have left us. Tremendous guy. He and Clint. We're a lesser group without them.
I hadn't used my dishwasher in about a year. I have relatively few dishes to wash, so I just hand wash them. A couple weeks ago I had an unusual amount so I put them in the dishwasher. A little while later there was soap bubbles coming out of the bottom of the door. I put a towel down and left it going. Got the floor washed out of the deal.
Okay time for MASH. Hope everyone has a good evening.

I have no idea when/how that law/regulation was passed. I'm sure it was in response to trying to lessen the impact on the Federal budget since there are only a 100 Senators and 10's of thousands of Federal workers who would be in a pay bracket to be screwed by it! As for 5 finger compensation for the screw job, definitely not worth the risk. Thorough random checks of brief cases and purses as you entered electronic turnstiles to leave the facility would stop that nonsense. You'd be immediately escorted off base, and proceedings to terminate you would be initiated. You'd be amazed at how **** that place was about terminating anyone who was found to be untrustworthy, engaged in criminal, or even immoral, behavior. Random polygraphs of all personnel with clearances were also done, and whether you had ever taken government property was always a question on every polygraph I had. I will tell you, if you've never had a polygraph, it's a very, very unnerving and uncomfortable experience, even if you have never done anything wrong. Whenever someone is in a position to be blackmailed, is when secrets get leaked, that's a proven fact.

The best description on memories being made and had. ( I was almost riding in the stub nose cool *** Ford Van with you and the bud's...(I have seen the pictures prior of your Ford Van and remember the model year with some memories of my own) . So cool you share that with your Buds. Making viddles and plans for their away from home comfort shows what friends are for...Well done
Enjoyed the writing of events. You have a talent with the descriptive.
I was listening to Gordon Lightfoot as I did my cardio workout yesterday, enjoying his brilliance as a singer/songwriter/lyricist. I have to admit, I'm stuck primarily in the 60's, 70's, and early 80's with the music I love. It got me thinking, are there any current generation singer/songwriter/poets of the caliber of a Dylan, Springsteen, Lightfoot, or Lennon? I mean is there any music being made today by guys (or gals) who write beautiful music, put meaningful and poetic lyrics to that music, and sing the hell out of their own songs??? I honestly don't know? Any thoughts, I know most of you guys really enjoy music?

Thank you, bud.

The people that I know that love new music would say yes. I don't know how to find that music. FM radio is so poor now. Everything is on youtube, but the hard part is finding it to listen. Once you do, you can do a streaming service for what you like for good quality versions.
You're a little lighter than I am. The center of my taste in music is about when Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow ended and Judas Priest started.

John - Thanks for your rsvp to my question. I agree 100% with what you said, you would certainly think those type of artists are out there, but how do you find them? I use Iheart Radio to bluetooth to my auxiliary speaker in the 4-4-2, and one of my motorcycles. I guess if I'm really interested, I should start hunting and pecking around that site to see what I can find.
Mid-50's and rain all day, everything from a mist to downpours. At least there's been no lightning and thunder so far, so Monty's been OK all day. Supposed to have substantially more rain overnight until mid-day tomorrow, with flash flood warnings in effect.
I didn't do squat all day other than my workout. Went out and got Chinese for dinner so that was good. I feel like a nap with this gloomy weather!
The day didn't start out stellar but ended fairly okay. I've started taking Tiger over to Mom's in the morning again and we walked out to the pickup and it wouldn't start. It's been playing this game that I turn the key and everything goes dead. Well no amount of fiddling would fix it so I went and got the key to the van and off we went. Got half way to work and realized I had left my lunch in the pickup. Got to work and my desk had been completely covered in wheels that were built on overtime. Things got better, and I went out for lunch, and we left work about a quarter after 2.
Chris I know you weren't pilfering from the office. We really don't have an inspection for items following us home, so it's opportunistic. Eh, people have to look at their own selfs in the mirror.

Mike - I never thought for a second that you were insinuating that I might do something like that. We're all good!

Chris check out Jamey Johnson he is a writer 1st singer 2nd Does both very well in my opinion and tastes.
Chris, Vary interesting they worry about you taking home a stapler and leave billions of equipment every time they leave
I can guarandamntee ya it ain't staplers or pens they're searching for, although as I pointed out they'd bust ya if you were pilfering. Any kind of imaging, recording, or electronic storage devices were the real targets of the searches, but you probably knew that!
