Good for you bud! My doc orders one of those every year as part of my yearly physical. Unfortunately next year I'm due for the full roto-rooter!

They’re staying home for the most part. Businesses ans schools are closed. Electricity comes and goes but it hasn’t been off long enough for anyone to freeze.

The next couple of days will be around 40 for daytime highs and low 20s for overnight lows.

Kenneth - Glad to hear they have power for the most part, and able to stay warm and keep pipes from freezing!

Greg, good to hear that your wife's colonoscopy went well. Did it get down into the -20's in your neck of the woods? Just finished up a treatment of amoxicillin myself. Chris, your wife sure has talent. Nice job! Norm, good chip joke. Speaking of cold.

James - Sorry to hear about your loss of family or friends. There's never a good day for a funeral, but it sure does seem like many are on generally crappy days. Obviously not your fault, but whenever I hear of a funeral this time of year my mind automatically goes back to my younger brother's funeral in January of 2014. We lost him in a freak pedestrian auto accident during one of those Michigan whiteouts. He had both a Michigan State Trooper and a Michigan DNR Officer stand in honor on each side of his casket during all 3-days of his viewing, and a convoy of State Troopers and DNR Officers in his funeral procession. Greg, Dan, and Jeff will remember these Michigan State Trooper Chargers with the Cherry Top lights. Cool police cars, but it sure sucked to have to see so many that day.

Chris - James owns a green cemetery, I believe James is referring to two funerals today not related to family/friends.

Norm - Thanks for the clarification. I knew James owned a cemetery, but did not make a connection obviously. I was not familiar with the term "green cemetery " and had to look it up.

I do and people are dying to get

Sorry old cemetery joke

1 down, 1 to go

Chris, The Cliff note version of "Green Cemetery" is No vault, no embalming and only biodegradable caskets or shrouds

Saves a ton of money. While we're on the subject. Could someone please explain to me why in the world some people buy a warranty on a vault

My ex-wife passed away & I went to the cemetery to honor her. I brought a 20 year old bottle of fine scotch and poured it over her grave - after having first filtered it through my kidneys.

Only two things to say about that:

Greg - Thank you for your condolences. Even though it was over 7-years ago now, it seems like just yesterday he was here, and yet again, a lifetime ago. I really think there's a whole lot of truth in that Tim McGraw song, "Live Like You Were Dying", you just never know how much time is left.

Hi everyone.

Red letter day today. Got out at 11 and ate lunch with Tiger. Hope it's the same tomorrow. Cold here and overcast but not raining.

Chris you may have said this before, your brother was a law enforcement officer? I can't imagine the sorrow, and at the same time pride, honoring one of your own like that.

Jamesbo is this a quiz? I've been paying attention. The reason people buy a warranty on a vault is because the Dignity people trick you into it after they've taken over the Mom and Pop funeral home. Heck they don't even change the wallpaper.

Norm I don't know who Boyd is but I didn't have a problem with his post. Of course my kitchen doesn't look like that. I can see that it would be easy for someone to want to have a problem with what he said. Sometimes I'd like to have a problem with what someone says. I feel left out not getting my knickers in a bunch all the time.

For this afternoon's entertainment I'm going out to mail a letter and then put gas in the car. I couldn't quite eek out another day of work on this tank of gas. That's okay, the car will then be ready for my Saturday trip to Daytona Beach. I may (or may not!) have mentioned that it's my friend's 60th birthday and her husband is having a surprise lunch for her. Lunch isn't the surprise, all the people showing up is the surprise. I could fly down there, but flights don't look terrific and my only choice to get back is the last flight of the day. Tiger is going to jail so it will all be good.

Okay off I go. Have a good afternoon everyone.

Mike - Glad you had a great day!
Yes, my brother was in law enforcement. He was a Michigan State Trooper for 5-years, stationed not too far north of Chicago near St. Joseph, MI right off of I-94. Then he made what was essentially a lateral transfer into the Law Enforcement Division (Game Wardens) of the DNR. He rose up through the ranks, eventually becoming the Captain of the Southern Zone which is the southern half of the Lower Peninsula. The final 3-years of his 25-year career he accepted an appointment from the Governor to be the State's Director of Emergency Management. He then went on to teach criminal justice at a vocational school near where he lived. He had only taught there approximately 3-years before he died. I would estimate there were at least 50, if not more, current or former students at the funeral. He was the ultimate, people person!

My appointment for my 2nd (#2) pre-molar extraction is now scheduled to occur tomorrow morning @ 11:10am. My scheduled 3:30pm appointment actually began about 4:15pm - appointments at medical practitioners scheduled this late in the day generally never happen on-time. I've been to this office (Eastern Carolina Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery) numerous times, I know all the folks & I ride motorcycle with the (now retired) surgeon who founded the practice. At any rate, by the time Susan (dental assistant) and me talked about everything under the sun until the time Rob (Robert Armstrong, Surgeon) arrived @ 4:30pm, Rob & me then discussed SARS-Cov-2 for about 20 minutes, then we discussed Rob's family, and then it was 5:00pm and Rob said everything looks fine we'll get this out & left the room. Susan comes in next, and says Rob didn't know he was going to do the extraction today but he said that's fine he will. I asked Susan what would you prefer - today or tomorrow. She honestly looked at me (tired from the long day already) and asked would tomorrow be OK or you want it done today. I again asked what would you prefer? She said she felt like tomorrow would work great and I concurred since it was now 5:00, I'm in no pain, they'd all like to clean up, finish up, and get done with their day. Since I have no plans tomorrow (other than to watch it rain), I opted towards the side of helpfulness, instead.

Chris - I was pulled over by a Michigan State Trooper sometime around 1993-1994 while traveling from Elgin, IL (Chicago) to The Palace (Auburn Hills, MI) for a concert - I can't recall where, so I'm not sure I would have been near the area where your brother may have been working or even during the same time period. I was making a bee-line on Interstate 94.

I've been a member of the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) group since 2011 - I'm far less active now. I was far more active during the time when the Westboro Baptist Church douche nozzles were disrupting & engaging in hate speech at military funerals across the nation. I was involved in actively in removing one such douche nozzle from a military funeral with the assistance of several undercover LEOs. Today, the douche-nozzles have mostly evaporated but PGR still supports those who wish a flag-line, escort service, etc. for deceased military & law enforcement (primarily). It was during the funeral I mentioned removing a Westboro douche-nozzle that I experienced and was involved in the largest escort I've ever experienced - a truly awesome procession/escort. There were roughly 200-300 motorcycles, 200-300 NC State Trooper vehicles and a procession of ~30 horses mounted my NC Troopers with a horse drawn caisson. I guess horse drawn caisson is redundant since a caisson is horse drawn by default? What a funeral procession - I thought I was in New Orleans. RIP to your brother.

Norm - Great stories about the Patriot Guard Riders, I always appreciate their appearances and support for Vets at funerals. Love the patriotism and respect.

Thanks for your condolences for my brother. I had to go back to his obituary to make sure I had the timeline right. He transferred from the State Troopers to the DNR in 91-92, so you just missed him by a couple years. I-94 is such a horrible highway to travel on, so much semi traffic to deal with, and it's always beat to hell because of the semi's, and as a result also alot of construction. When I go home I avoid it if at all possible.

Chris - I understand and agree w/ you regarding I-94. I was in a hurry making a bee-line for Auburn Hills. Well, until I was pulled over! I received a warning is all.

Good morning guys,

It's 2 degrees here at 0745, but at least it's sunny and suppossed to get to 30. Last of the super frigid temps. It's supposed to get up to 40 Sunday and keep going up to a high of 58 on Wednesday. Sure going to be glad to get out of this stretch of brutal weather.

I was in such a funk yesterday reminiscing about my brother I never got to posting the big news. My wife had posted her table, table leaf, and the 4 chairs for sale Wednesday night and it sold yesterday before noon. She was asking $500, a person offered her $400, and my wife took it without even throwing out a counter offer to the person. I wish I could buy a car from her . . . LoL! At an original purchase price of $50 and $50 in materials she figured $300 profit was good enough, regardless of her time. She was ecstatic with what she got out of it, so I was happy for her.

P.S. in regard to reminiscing about my brother yesterday. All of you guy's condolences and thoughts meant alot to me. Sometimes you just have to talk about things like that to be able to move on and get about your life. Warning, I'm sure it won't be the last time you'll have to listen to a story about him, he was my very best friend.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Yep, we did similar crazy crap. In college when we'd have a big snow that essentially shut down all the traffic on side streets, we'd hook up a ski rope to one of the guy's 4x4's and ski behind it, or tow a toboggan. Large toboggans were nice because more folks got to ride. When my girls were little I'd tow them around with my quad, of course the game was always to see how fast they could go before wiping out!

Norm - Yep, I learned that trick about evaluating the amount of roofing insulation too, all other things considered equal. In my last pic, my house is styled like the one on the left. There are 5 or 6 different main styles of homes in my fairly small subdivision. The house on the right has a larger area of vaulted ceiling that probably correlates with less insulation in that ceiling. I have vaulted ceiling in my Great Room, but it's not as extensive as in the house on the right. I will say this, I do feel like our home is well insulated. I had to fill some gaps around the two sliders with spray foam that weren't sealed very well, and a few gaps around the base studs along the foundation, but other than that the original builder did a pretty good job sealing her up pretty tight.

I went through the ice once too. My parents lived on a small lake. Their house was a walkout basement style and there was a fairly steep slope on the side of the house down to the backyard, and a second steep slope down to the lake. We could get a really fun sled ride by zooming down the side yard, into the backyard, and on down to the lake onto the ice. The only trouble was, the lake was spring fed, and the ice was always thinner in the areas directly above the springs. Even though my parents normally wouldn't let us go onto the ice until it was all solid, one time there was a miscalculation. My sled stopped right over the top of one of the springs and I went through. Luckily, it was not far from the bank, and it was not over my head so I was able to crawl up onto the ice and get out. Also, I was lucky I was only about 40-yards from the back door of the house. Sure as hell was cold though. If you're interested to see the details of this situation, Google Map 289 Pennbrook Trail, Battle Creek, MI 49017. You will see the lake on the east side of the house, and we would slide down the slope on the south side of the house,

Got back from the dermatologist this a.m. for my annual skin cancer check up. Froze a spot on top of my head and a small one on my nose. Damn that stings on the nose. No worries though. We used to do the bumper skiing as well, usually with unsuspecting patrons in the local grocery store parking lot, sometimes grabbing the tow hook on the back of the school bus when we walked to the Junior high school as well.

Dan - Great to hear the check up went well and no worries. Amazing most of us guys don't have more occurrences than we do as much time as we spent playing outside growing up, with little or no sun protection. I'm just guessing, but I'd bet kids these days will have significantly fewer occurrences based on playing outside much less and much better UV protection.

Yeah, I know others who swear by that combination. I've had extractions in the past where I took nothing more than ACA (aspirin) - I'm not a big fan of mixing drugs (or taking them for that matter). Combining alcohol + oxycodone yields respiratory depression - which in terms of a nice knockout punch sounds quite rewarding, but since I doubt I need to be knocked out, I'll just stick w/ Percocets (mostly because I have absolutely no idea or known history of how that might effect me personally). I don't know whether to admire or be cautious of those who mix the two - I've known plenty (intelligent) folks who swear by it though. Chris, you're such a naughty boy!

I had hernia surgery about 25-years ago. I could have had the laparoscopic procedure, but elected to have the more evasive full blown regular surgery where they implant the strengthening mesh material. The surgeon told me if I planned on continuing my weight lifting, and lifting other heavy things, that there'd be much less chance of tearing it again if I had the mesh reinforcement. He was right, it has held up great. Too long ago to remember what pain killers they gave me, but it was a pretty long, painful recovery.

Norm, How come sometimes when I click on a thread, it takes me all the way down to the most recent post and sometimes it don't?

Is it like the thermos bottle? How do it know when a liquid is cold or hot?
