Goodly woodly Wednesday you wacked out woodpeckers!

Sandy, great to hear you got things under control. Teepo will love the extra attention she's getting. See how much you're still learning about that car? BTW don't lissen to Brian. Over torquing the bolts actually causes the pan to bend at the bolt area and creates more leaks.

It's foggy up here this morning. Kind of thought it would be appropriate to hear a foghorn, but no. Forecast is for rain the next few days.

I'm judging at a skills competition for large vehicles in May, so today is a pre-meet with all the other judges so we can connive about what we're supposed to do and what we're actually gonna do! It's always fun and a great time to get together with other retirees.

Jamesbo, gosh I'm sorry. I guess I shoulda sent her a PM. Didn't mean to break the rules of the thread.

Mike, you still up? Sorry to hear you're stuck on graveyards. I remember what that was like many years ago.

Oh okay that should help with the gas bill for sure overall. Yes I did get the Cav home thanks for asking I tried to post this yesterday eve, but when the site would finally load and I typed my message and posted it, it took forever yet again and finally loaded to a screen that informed me that my "token" has expired. So I'm like what token? I stay logged on and never log off except to restart my CPU after updates.

Anyway I call the tow in on my way to the dealership and low and behold I see an old schoolmate walking around the service entrance. Well it seems that he is their ace coon boon, so I explain to him what had happened to my daughter on the way to school and he said to give him a few mins. So I call the towing company to postpone the tow so their driver doesn't have to wait on him tinkering with the car. Well after about 10 mins he calls me over to the lot and I hear the Cav running He then shows me the bulkhead where the engine bay harness meets the interior harness and said it had a bad connection and to get it home and tighten the 7mm bolt that secures the bulkhead together. So I thanked him sincerely and tried to slip him the towing $ but he wouldn't take it So I got his # and now I have an ace in the hole on any GM product with a computer that I can't tackle on my own Needless to say I sure am happy it's fixed. She's graduating this year and as much as she deserves a brand new car, it just isn't in the cards right now We ain't complaining though because we are very blessed, just in other ways than $ But $ can't buy happiness or love so were good

Yep Sandy that is with the transmission and torque converter bone dry. The torque converter retains the bulk of the fluid so to change the pan gasket and filter it should only take three quarts +/- Who ever does it will know not to overfill.

Just check to make sure it isn't too low and Teepo should be fine.

Ahh, some things never change.....

BTW, that thing about how much tranny fluid you'd need? It was bugging me so I went and looked it up. Says in the Owners manual that the TH350 for 'drain and refill' - like what you're doing is 3 quarts. If you were doing a complete overhaul, (which you're not) it would take 10 quarts. That's a big difference. So when you get the work done, be sure to check how much fluid they charge you for. (oh - P67 OM under Capacities)

Have a great 1/2 day!

Glad to know I wasn't the only one having issues with the site yesterday afternoon/evening! Today has been ok so far.

Glad to hear your daughter's car is fixed Scot! And didn't cost a pretty penny. It helps to have 'friends in low places', lol. I wish I'd have been a mechanic back in the day.

Thank you all for your input!! I sure appreciate it!!!!!!

Scott, you weren't the only one with that problem. BTW what type of browser are you running?

Glad to hear you got your Cavalier running. I realize I don't know much of the history and this may come across wrong but I just don't like them. Known too many people who have had them (and sister Sunfire) with problems. But that's probably a small number compared to the gadjillions of those things that were sold. I'm sure she'll understand about not getting a brand new car right now.

Ace coon boon? Never heard o that before....but from the sounds of it I'd be at least buying him a small memento of thanks...techs like that are hard to find, and good to keep.

OK. I found a 1984 Hurst/Olds. The tranny (since we're talking about transmissions) needs a rebuild. The lady wants $3000 OBO. The engine runs, it has the lightning Rods in place, correct wheels etc. I figure I could probably get it for $2200. But do I really need it!

The trans will probably cost another $2000 to fix and then I could start on the body, although it looks pretty solid in 90% of the areas. The trunk is spotless and the interior has no rips. The dash has a small bite out of it, (bet there's a story there). Decisions, decisions.

Howdy peeps.

Ken of course you need that car! I never got how those lightning rods worked. Do you have to use them all the time or is there a setting for "Drive" and it shifts itself?

Allan I work Wednesday/Thursday/Friday nights 930pm to 930am. Been doing this for years, I love it. You can't beat four days off every week. Once a month I work a Saturday to make up for the 12 hours I'm short. If I can sit down and relax a little during break on Friday night I can usually stay up all day Saturday.

Speaking of cruises, the Summit Racing Monday night cruise in starts in two weeks. It's mostly the same people every week, but who cares, it's fun getting out and seeing cars. I've got several potential cars to take, maybe this year I'll get something finished.

What a gorgeous day here. It's 81* and sunny, light wind. Gonna be nice tonight, and I think the weather will hold out for a few days.

Scot I'm glad you got the car home and running again. You never hear of too many people who like those, but they did sell a bunch of them. The Z24 from the late 80s was a real screamer, though, let me tell you. But it was fist-fulls of money to get the digital dash fixed when it quit lighting up.

And now I'm out to rearrange the driveway.

Mike

Sandy, I understand "ovarian logic" an hate to bring a male pragmatic mind to de table BUT why not jes get the tranny leak fixed when ya take Teepo to Don to get the steerin wheel realigned. While Teepos outa de way Larry could fix/replace de furnce.

Sorry, jes try'in to connect sum dots fer yal.

Thanks and yeah I've read some of the Cavi forums Hindsight 20/20??? But yes they are/were plagued with tons of issues. And yes she understands about the new car thing, but I will make sure she has a dependable ride and she does know that.

Just a saying from the 70's I say to address a really good friend. Yup he's got a case of beer coming soon.

Mike it doesn't matter if the car is finished or not, if you love it then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. And chances are if you love it most other people will too.

You just don't know how glad I am as well That's what happened to my daughters friend. Something to the tune of $580. between diagnosing the dash gauge pod, another pod and the install

Well guys I just received some more great news! My third daughter in a row is nominated for her sophomore year to be inducted into The National Honor Society I/we are soooo proud of all of them. Awesome

Congrats Scott. You should be proud! I'm in the same boat with my son but at the high school level - all 3 years on the honor roll. He was asked to participate in the 2012 Canadian National Skills competition for Architectural Studies. I'm kind of holding my breath.....

Scot what I mean by finished is one that will run. Of course I love them all. I could enter the Saturn wagon, and still get door prize tickets. Good on you for having such smart girls!

You know what gets me, when people are selling a car or whatever and say they have a Turbo Hydro transmission. I want to ask them if it's filled with water.

Okay going to work. Just wanted to check back in. Gotta get gas on the way; currently the going price is 3.65. Cheap for what it does, but.....

Have a good night everyone.

My arm is still killing me, My doctor says I'm overweight and was looking at me funny suggesting that it's time for a [physical], it's gonna rain all day tomorrow. Had to buy some very expensive meds. How much bad news does a guy need in one day?

On the bright side: I bought gas today for only 4.00/gal (I converted it for ya) instead of the usual 4.42 for regular. While I was at the judges meeting I hooked up with some old friends. One of them just restored a 57 Ford Ranchero and it looks great. He offered to help me with the rebuild on my rear axle and engine. Sounds promising....I can always use an extra set of hands doing stuff with the car.
My son's laptop got shipped today...should be here in about 4 days.

Sandy - how's Teepo? What did they find when they changed out that gasket?

Mike - have a great shift. Do you mind me asking, what do you do?

Scott - enjoy a nice evening with your family

Jamesbo - I knows yule does whats yew wants no matta whut enyone says so you just be good atit ok?

Ken - Is that HO on Kijiji? Are you serious about it?

Pat - sup? Haven't heard much from you...Sorry if I woke ya

Life is still good! I think I've become addicted to this forum...Y'all have a great night. I'm going surfing now on the other threads and see what stuff I've stirred up.

Ken - Is this it? http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...AdIdZ370313076 If it is and you're going to go look at it, give me a call and maybe we can both go look at it?

Well worth it!

My two cents...I would buy that in a nanosecond .Resell market is there and you would be saving a pretty cool Olds.
Now if Allan would drive it to Ontario for me, I would buy it

Morning All!

Mostly cloudy here this morning - a chance of showers they're saying. Temps in the 50's.

Well..... Teepo and I had a lovely drive on these rough roads over to Highland Auto Body yesterday. Had to wait for Bob's Sherwin Williams rep to get there with the camera. The guy put that camera on her door - it kept sliding off, lol - and he took some pics. They wrote down whatever code came up on it. I showed him her newly painted trunk that Don's guy did, and showed them a picture of the paint chart in one of my 72 literature books that show the exterior colors available for the 72, which is Pinehurst Green. Code 43......

Sooooo after fooling around forever, Bob said he will now mix up paints and spray and see if he can match the color. I don't know........ I hope he can figure it out so one day I can get her touched up in places before they get too bad.

I got home after 3:00, and decided to plant the Creeping Phlox I bought to replace the ones Larry killed when he redid the bed, since they are blooming now. Didn't figure it would hurt to plant them. Planted some Hens and Chickens out by the deck as some of my other ones died over the winter. It was nice to be outside in the sunshine!!

Today, we have no internet connection here. Can't get on our computers at all. We have to connect to Houston's server and can't. Brian has been on the phone with Windstream since he got in. They'll send someone out between 10 and noon. Steve is chomping at the bit, lol. And it's hotter than Hades in here. Steve had his friggin heater on, but finally turned it off. It's 52 outside.... ain't exactly cold, lol. It's now 76 in here. Fan is on.

Allan R...... Yesterday was the body shop camera thing. The tranny thing is next Wednesday.

Jamesbo..... I'm not gonna have Don do the gasket while I have her over there for the steering because they are fitting me in to fix the steering. I'd have to make a whole nother appointment to have them do the gasket. I didn't want to be a royal PITA to them, lol. I'll just have Defer do it. Closer to home and easier to get to. Oh yeah.... my bean seeds are starting to sprout some under the little dome.

Scot..... want to switch daughter's, lol?? Congrats!! I am proud for you all. That's a great thing. Brian's son will graduate in May, and he's gonna go to Kent State..... I'm so jealous. Nicole could have done something with herself, and it hurts my heart to see her on the path she's on...... Nothing I can do about it though.

Well you all have a great day!

Well it's still up and running with a gazillion kids attending, lol. They just built a new "branch" of KSU here in Twinsburg. It's going to open in the next month or so. I think at this branch it's mostly medical classes.

It's cool here this morning. Gonna rain for the next three days. It was 0C (32F) when I set off to work today. By next week they're saying it will be in the 20's. Won't be cleaning out the garage or getting the 442 started. Still thinking about the Hurst...or should I buy one that's drivable...or should I buy on at all?. I'll know by the weekend. I suppose I should tell Karen if I'm going to buy it.

Kent State...yeah I've driven past that place three times. Always wondered if it was the place that Neil Young sang about after the National Guard shootings...I figured it was. I need another long road trip. Trying to organize something for next year...possibly down to California via the backroads. No interstate if I can help it.

Anyway, have a good day all.

Good morning everyone.

Last night wasn't a bad Monday for me, just long. Maybe tonight will be better. Allan I'm aircraft maintenance for Delta Air Lines in Atlanta. Been with the company 18 years. Started on the ramp throwing bags. And that was the job I liked the best.

Jamesbo what happened to that guy you were going to sell the 69 to? Everyone talk you out of it?

Ken if you have the room you should buy the Hurst. For less than 3000 you can't go wrong. I see that the first rod has the regular shift pattern, but I'm still not getting the other two rods. I'm just dense sometimes.

Okay I'm gonna hit the sack. Gotta get up this afternoon and make some plans for the RV from hell. I still gotta tell you guys about that. Have a good day everyone.

Ken.... yep. That's what Neil Young was singing about. The 4 students that got killed there. I remember seeing the Army tanks driving on the streets back then and such. I was young, and it was scary, lol. All the protests and people everywhere....

The H/O looks decent for the price, but there is a bit of dried dirt/mud? in the trunk, I would check it over to make sure that it was not in a flood.

Morning all

Ken, sounds like you have just about talked yourself into buying the HO, just go get it already.

Jamsbo gonna sell the 69 huh, that leaves you with Vert and the Vista. I guess two cars are enough right. This way you don't have to think finishing it every time you walk by it. Good luck in the sales.

Good Thursday Mawnin, Mawnin People

Beautimus day here in the heartland Right at 75 now and should reach up into the mid 80's this eve. Gorgeous!!

Thanks all on the congrats, they (my girls) never cease to amaze me. No thanks on the daughter swap Sandy I have enough gray hair for my age I'm sure Nicole will come around soon, she just needs to get away from the bad influences.

Ken the H/O looks like it needs a bunch of TLC. From what I can see on the pics, I'd offer $2300 cash but if you really want it I'd bring $2600 to the table if they didn't take the first offer. Heck the shifter is worth dang near a grand by itself. IMO

Jamesbo that you on the rollback? There are a couple of shows coming up in your neck of the woods that you could sell it for sure. http://dixieolds.50megs.com/whats_new.html I know that ain't your cup o tea but...... That BOP&C show will bring out the $$ fer sure.

Allan I've got one (the oldest) that is a sophomore in college, next is a senior in high school, a freshman in high school and a fourth grader. All girls The senior in high school has my vote for the one to most likely crawl under a car to help Daddy

Mike you ought to show up at Summit in the Corvair with open headers

Don I got the well wishes sent out via snail mail this day so Marilyn should receive it by Monday at the latest but more than likely it'll be there Saturday. Maybe she'll want you to bring her home in the drop top

Welcome aboard the Good Mawnin thread Ted Hey that rhymes

Well yall have a great day ya hear

Ugggly Turdsay - yuchh

Just like Ken said, it's not really nice here today. It's not cold but it's not warm either. Hasn't warmed up much from the time you went to work buddy. And the winds picked up - gusting at around 20mph.

Ken - Those are neat pics. The body work looks to be fairly minimal - minor rust on back DS and cowl - wonder what the frame and underneath looks like. I see the engine was running- tach is at about 1100rpm - that's a good sign. The chrome air cleaner looks good and did you notice the MC looks almost new? Does anyone repop that HO emblem missing on the header panel? Another thing that struck me as 'wierd' was the deck spoiler is missing both sides of the wing tips. But the engine bay actually looks pretty decent, even though someone ripped out the hood insulation. It has AC, Cruise, tilt, rear defog from what I can see. Those cars retailed for around 24K new in the showroom. (ask me how I know)

Sandy - hope all goes well with the color match. It's incredibly hard to match 40 year old paint. Between now and tranny day, just check Teepos fluid level so it doesn't get too low. (BTW - just as info because lots of people don't seem to know this - you check tranny fluid when the car is HOT, like after it's been run for at least 10 miles.)

Mike - Cool. When you stop having fun at your job it's time to move on. (I know this because.....after almost 32 years it wasn't fun anymore) Course that was when there was the luxury of finding jobs almost everywhere. Not like today's job market.

Ted - If you end up buying that car? Sure thing I'll drive it down to you. Might take a while if it's only got low gear. When I'm down there I can check out the room you're setting up for me as custodian of the 'heritage collection'. Oh, BTW do I get to drive the 70 back here to AB where it 'belongs'??

Scott - Glad at least one of em will crawl under a car with ya! My son isn't really that interested in wrenching no matter how much I try to encourage him. Best I've been able to get from him is to help change tires and bleed brakes. Oh well, I'll take what I can get.

That's why I'm interested. But really, do I have the room? The driveway is about 80-100 feet but I still have to jockey them around (we're currently a 4 car household). Street space is getting tight too as one neighbour has two trucks and the other has 4 cars. If the car had more than low gear. Are you interested in it Allan? So were you looking for one when they first came out?

Mike, I believe that the other two "sticks" are 1-2 gear and 3-4 gear.

Tax refund...I have to pay. Karen is getting a refund though. Good luck on selling your car

Say $2250 for the car, then $2000 to fix the tranny, $2-3000 for the body work, then paint and decals....maybe I should look at one I could drive home. I don't want to buy it and end up parting it out. Shoot, I'll make my mind up tomorrow.

I was going to go $2250 and see what happens, and I know - those lightning rods cost a mint!

Well we got rain about 10 am. Came down pretty hard. It's lightened up some now. I had to use my umbrella on my walk at lunch time. We need some rain though. The flower beds were dry and crumbly yesterday when I was working in them.

Allan R....... "Check while hot. Idling in park on a level surface." Lol!

Ken - I know what you mean about the space and jockeying around. I have way less space than you do. Joanne might be somewhat ticked if I decided to buy that when I haven't finished working on my silver car yet. Although I'd love to buy it, I need to watch my spending now that I'm on a 'fixed income'. Don't want to have to go back to work; a lower income might affect my CPP and OAS

Was I looking for one back then? Let's put it this way. Back in 83 I was buying a new car every year (young, foolish and no attachments). I walked into Nicholson and they had a Burgandy 98 Regency Brougham sitting next to a HO (black over silver in 83). Both were the SAME price! Sat in both and loved them both. Salesman would NOT let me take the HO for a spin unless I was going to buy it. That's just retarded. He said I could drive any other Cutlass on a test drive. What a moron - I was trading in an 82 CS with T tops. I KNOW what they ride like....So I went to the Head of the sales. He also wouldn't let me take it for a spin without a damage deposit of around 500.00 So I said, "**** on it. Haul that 98 out of the showroom - I'll try it instead". Ended up buying it for less than the HO. The HO's were very rare in Edmonton, kind of like the 70-72 W30, W31 and Rallye 350's. Good thing I didn't buy it then, I sold the 98 a year later and ordered an 85 Calais....

Now if Allan would drive it to Ontario for me, I would buy it

Ted

Ted, Allan would have to drive it there in low gear, that's all it's got.

Ken - It's gotta have more than 1st gear. Isn't that a 200r4? I think we have the technology out here to rebuild that thing into a 6 million dollar car....ask Marty how much to do a tranny.

Hey everyone.

Glad to see you Ted. I like the list of cars you have.

Hard and crumbly? That describes some of the chicks I used to know!

Ken we've all decided for you. Just go get it. Here's an idea, we should all take up a collection and buy it together, and then take turns keeping it for a month or so and then send it to the next person.

Good luck with the car, Jamesbo. I hate selling cars, too. That's why I have so many.

Well it's that time again. Hope everyone has a good evening.

Good Evening Everyone.

I can't wait for the weekend.

Kind of disappointed that my team is out of the NHL playoffs, and there are no Canadian teams left playing. Well, I guess that means I can focus on the Cutlass again.

Did I just read a recipe for buying a car Only on CO.

Good luck with the paint Sandy. I think I am going to be in a similar position with the Delta. The painter "added" to the mix for the paint.

Ken that car doesn't look too bad. I never understood why they only wrapped part of the steering wheel.

Jamesbo, good luck selling the car.

Mike, RV from hell? RVs can be fun, can't they?

Eeeewwwww!!!

Evening everyone. Well sure enough it's raining - pretty good too. Heavy sigh.....

Ken - since you no longer have to pull the engine on your 76 and everything's done that you were going to do to it anyway? Yeah, go ahead and buy the HO. I'll help you get it home.

Jamesbo - selling a car? Maybe you could get Ken interested.

Ted - Probably wouldn't cost all that much to ship. Plus you don't really have to worry about it getting scratched or dinged in transit. Hoping the car has a history of registration and it's original documents.

CD - There is life after hockey. What's happening on the weekend?

Here's a disturbing thought. On a recent "The Doctors" show, it's claimed that your mattress will double it's weight over 10 years. Actually not true. What does happen is you slough skin, which attracts dust mites who in turn eat the old skin (kinda like mite potato chips eh) and they poop and pee in the mattress. So it does increase in weight. A dust mite looks like this under an electron microscope.

Now that you know this good stuff, where are you planning to sleep tonight?

Well, time to go surf some other forums. Ciao for Niao!
