Looking for engine builder Ontario CANADA

Can anyone recommend a engine builder in the Toronto Ontario Canada area.

My last engine builder did not know Oldsmobiles at all. Getting my 455 shortblock back with main support straps installed ,I cant even put the oil pan on due to the mains not being milled......grr. I wont even mention all the oil restrictors returned in a plastic bag because "they really dont need to be installed on the motor". Anyway I have C ,F, 2 sets of E and a set of "out of the box" edelbrock heads. I want my 455 shortblock pulled apart and everything checked, tolerances ,oil restrictors installed etc. I'll be going with the edelbrock heads.

Does anyone know a shop that does oldsmobiles engines in this area? Thanks

You aren't terribly far from Rochester and there are a couple of great Olds engine builders here. One is well known in Olds circles. If you are interested, I can make a recommendation

Really interested in this thread, need an engine rebuilt near Montreal Canada.

Where are these guys nearby? I'm willing to drive a couple hours for a really nice OLDS engine rebuild.

Question, Can i just bring my car and they'll do the work? I dont really have a pickup truck or anything...

What he said /\

You're only 3 hrs away !

I was in Buffalo yesterday, could have met you there and dropped it off.

The "well known" builder usually likes his customers to pick their own stuff up though. Usually after a dyno session.

Check out www.BTRperformance.com - BTR is in Rochester. If this is not suitable, I can recommend another about half an hour closer

None of the machines shops that I know of do this. If you want this type of service have the engine pulled locally by a trusted mechanic and have the engine rebuilt by a shop that YOU choose.

Cool, i do have buddies in the pickup truck business. So i guess this engine rebuild might have to wait until i guess a house.

Dunno how much tenants would appreciate me ripping an engine out of my cutlass in a parking garage

I mean, i did my timing chain last week at 3:00am so they wouldn't see

Atchison Machine is located in London Ontario. They do not offer engine removal.

Many of the larger performance machine shops in Ontario do offer Re&Re of the engine at an extra cost. Easiest way to find out is to give them a call.

I had a complete rebuild

Bored .030 over, new pistons, resized rods, cam, lifters, new valves (no porting), polished crank, & complete reassembly pan to intake for $3,500 five years ago. You could pay more or less. My motor was done in a big city. Labor rates are higher there.

edit: BTR did not do my motor. I was living in the Boston area at the time. I was/ am very happy with the job I had done but would use BTR now as I live less than an hour from him

If I was in Toronto I wouldn't consider anyone other than BTR in Rochester. Not too bad a drive & you will deal with one of the most competent, knowledgeable, honest Olds engine specialists anywhere, period. Whether stock or modified, he will do it right, the way you want it as long as that is "right".

Can't speak definitively on pricing but I would guess roughly stock rebuild w/ quality components would be in $3-4k range. Modifications cost what they cost but be sure to talk things through with whoever you get involved with.

You can get cheaper, but not better than BTR. There are other good builders out there but Bill isn't all that far from you.

Most places I called in the Toronto area were between $4000 - $6000 for a stock rebuild on my 425.

You will definately get the work done cheaper in the US. I just wouldn't want to deal with the hassle at the border.

If you had a core motor rebuilt, drove the car (assuming it still drives) and had the new motor installed in the US would they know?
