Redoing my engine compartment and tune up...
Can you give your $.02 on these plugs?
The engine has around 5K miles. It was built 15 years ago. I do "not" have the specs. It was built above stock performance. Got a mild cam.
These are R45S's. FYI- The threads are wet due to WD40.
I do have new (15 years old)set of R46S that came with it.
Would it be OK to run these?

Yes the R46S will work, or you can cross the 45's to NGK.

 

Other than being slightly worn and that one ash covered plug it looks ok to me. It probably just needs a long highway run to clean things up a bit

Yes it desperately needs some highway.
My buddy owned it for 16 years before I got it. He only did short drives and the 5K miles over the 16 years.
I will definitely be changing that!

it's interesting that there's one really covered and one a little fluffy.

 

 

The 45's are burning well, not very worn and could be cleaned up with a spark plug cleaner if you want them for vintage/show.

The 46's are one heat range hotter and could run too hot, keep an eye on them.

If the rocker arms are stock they are not adjustable. The loose pushrods are either worn parts or the lifter bled down from sitting a long period.

The ash covered plug is fine, it is likely some oil or fuel deposit...no worries on that.

Got a 455 built up a little. I do not have specs. 4K to 5K miles on the new build (15 years ago). My best friend owned (obviously didn't drive much) and now I have it. Yes, it will definitely see more miles!
Got a mild cam and just popped the valve covers to find rollers.
I have a ticking on the drivers side and was not sure what it was.
Can these be adjusted? Nothing has been done since the build.
Also, below is a pick of the plugs. The 3rd one is crusty. Maybe that is the culprit. Not sure.
I'm a novice and need some advice.

I generally agree with what's been said. The R46S would work, but should be monitored for pre-ignition and plug condition. What you have seems normal except for the one with the heavier deposit. You might consider doing a compression check and inspection of the valve stem seals. Running the plugs through a checker might reveal a shortfall in the one with the heavier deposit.

 

I agree, no issues with the plugs condition, but if it were me, plugs being as cheap as they are, just install new ones. I like the NGK iridium plugs.

 

I decided against the R46's and bought some NGKs.
I'll check the compression.
