Header tube to oil filter proximity

I test fit my Thorley headers today and there is about 1/4"-3/8" gap between the header tube and the oil filter. Is this OK? It will spin on and off OK but I'm worried about heat. I was thinking I could possibly run a slightly smaller diameter filter (if an off the shelf one exists), or run a remote filter assembly. I'd prefer to keep the existing set-up. Is it OK to run as-is? Does anyone know of a slightly smaller filter I can run on the stock mounting point? What do you recommend?
Thanks.

I've got a 68 w headers running about the same clearence. Doesnt seem to be a problem. I don,t believe you will need to downsize your filter. If you are concerned you could opt for a remote mount, but there seems to be enough air flow running the filter in the stock configuration.

My advice is to never skip on filtrartion for the engine. Don't go to an filter just to save space, you should realize the micron rating, anti-flow back valve, alot of things take into play with just an oil filter, but it is crucial to the engine.
Headers are fine, my last set was on a 64 Impala SS 350, but either reroute your filter, or have other considerations as believe it or not, oil filtration is of most importance.

I would imagine that any oil filter nowadays would be a better rating than a 1968 one.

Well, maybe a Fram back then, but not now (in my opinion) just some considerations.

Good to know.

I think I found a set of headers for the Delta and that PF-24 oil filter is huge, a lot of a lot fatter than that PF-61 the 307 had.

As long as they aren't touching I would think it would be fine. HA I had the "cap" fall off the stock manifold and shooting a flames out the hole right nect to the oil filter and the car's still fine

Don't know if you already have a shorty on there...it won't help diameter wise...a remote location would work to keep the oil filter away from the engine heat. They can be had through Jegs or Summit. Good luck with your fix.
