distributor gear material

I'm upgrading my ignition to HEI, anyone know what type of distributor gear material that should be used with a Lunati cam part number 20429909?

Is it a billet cam or a cast blank?

All the catalog says is "requires distributor gear upgrade" The only Olds distributor gear they show is bronze. I think I would keep trying to reach them to make sure. You could try calling Chris Stroub at Straub technologies and ask him. He has all of the Morel gears and is pretty knowledgeable as to which cams need what gear.

You'll likely need a bronze or melonized gear. Can be hard to find depending on which distributor shaft you have (stock 0.491 or aftermarket 0.500). When I last went searching years ago it was also a pain on the aftermarket gears because some manufacturers weren't clear on whether the gear was melonized or not.

Correct.
if you have a .500 gear then you can just buy an MSD replacement gear. They’re melonized and seem to work real well.

Thanks everyone I'll get a new gear. BTW trying to contact Lunati support is ridiculous, wait times are over an hour...

I think your iPhone autocorrect thinks it knows more than you do, Mark.
