MSD Distributor Gear

Hello. I have a quick question. I have an MSD 8566 Pro-Billet Distributor I'm going to put on my Olds 455 at some point. I believe I read that the distributor gear that comes with it is a .491" gear, and will cause wear issues. I also have a CAT DG-455M gear, but I believe it is also a .491" gear, so it's no better (if what I've read/heard is correct).

So, is this true? I think I need a .500" gear, correct?

Again, I believe I read somewhere that I need the MSD 85661 gear, but I don't believe they make them anymore. I've looked for them and there are a few, but they go for around $100+. If this is the gear I need for my MSD distributor, should I grab a few of them ASAP so I have them, or am I over-reacting?

Thanks for your time!!

Do you have a roller cam and if so from where?
All MSD's use a .500 shaft on their Olds distributors. Everyone else uses a .491. Hope this helps.
