Wow!

I didn't know that the Pertronix unit used that awkward ring under the rotor.
the Crane unit and at least one other (forgot the name) just use the existing points cam.

Looks Mickey Mouse to me.

Thanks!

Well todayis a happy day for me I got my engine block and all new parts for the build!!!

So now the 1st time engine builder questions start so please have paitence with me

I have Clevite crank bearings and noticed one has no oil hole and no oil gruve....and its marked lower....is there any special place for this one and are these bearings matched to each other...if so how do I tell???

I looked through the olds manual but could not find the info for this.....I guess I should have took more pics

Yup.

You want those holes to line up with the oil passage holes in the block - shouldn't be a problem, the tabs should lock right into the right place.

The boxes should tell you which bearing is which.

Ok here is my next question....Last evening I decided to check the piston ring end gap and i think I might have the wrong piston rings!!!

The machinist ordered all the parts for me and he printed off a sheet with the specs with the piston ring end gap
TOP RING 0.012" - 0.014"
2ND RING 0.010" - 0.012"
OIL 0.015" - 0.050"

So when Im checking the top and 2nd im getting around .018" end gap.....so is there a way to tell if I have the wrong rings???

The ring set are HASTINGS

You are checking it in the hole, after squaring it with a piston crown, right?

Coming along nicely Roger. I don't have anything technical to suggest but am following this thread because I know one day it will be my turn. Do you have a scheduled date you're planning to have it all done?

Now it on to the timing chain and sprockets and cam!!

So i have the double roller cam and sprockets and the lower sprocket has the 3 keyways ...stock....advanced...retard timing and it says it will retard or advance timing + - 2*

what would be the best set up with my cam specs with 10 to 1 compression pistons bored .030 over

Cam timing is no place for guesswork. If you do not have the tools, and don't want to borrow or buy them, have someone else degree your camshaft.

You can certainly trust the makers of the timing set and cam to do everything exactly right and assume that it will be fine. Many folks do that.

Having done it a few times, I find the tool investment is not that bad, the process is not tough, and the peace of mind well worth it, to degree in the cam.

So, 71 Delta...
Did your motor have huge round spacers like 1+" thick between LH? mount and engine?

I have no idea about any 1" spacers........as for the degree of the cam I might put the word out this week in my area to see if someone with the right tools and skills to help me with this.......I dont want to spend extra$$$$ on a tool that I might use once!!

If I cant find someone I will just leve it at the stock setting!!

Scooter if you have a cloyes double roller timing chain and the cam already has 4 deg adv in it I would line it staight up and you should be fine! It will have really good bottom end and because of the cubic inches and that cam it will run great especially with the torque it will produce. If you were building a car to run at the drags ocassionally I would degree the cam no matter what but since it is only a good driver and no racing it should be fine. Let us know how it runs once its done!!! Great job on your first build!

I bought offset dowel pin cams from Mondello probably more than 20 years ago, I'm still waiting on a engine to use them on! Evey timing set or cam I have installed has always been right on the money as for a degreeing the cam. I'm a believer in Cloyes quality.

Scooter you did a great job and I love your car!!! I dont see many two door delta's I think they are more rare than 442's. I also love the Delmonts and the Toronado's I have always wanted a 68 Toronado maybe when I grow up I will have one haha!!
