Question on rocket 88 engine

I'm cutting up and removing a dozen old cars from an old farm in upstate New York and I see that one of them is an Oldsmobile Rocket 88. The only thing salvageable on the body might be some stainless steel trim but to my surprise the engine looks pretty complete. It has sat in the woods for at least fifty years and there's a lot of external rust but the engine appears like it has been sealed up pretty well. Does anyone want an engine like this or should I just recycle it?

I moved your thread to a different forum.

What year Oldsmobile is this engine in? Do you have a pic?

A couple pictures would help a lot.

If there is any chance someone would want this old motor, I will take some pictures tomorrow and see if I can figure out how to post them here. Any trick to posting photos here? Ah, I see an 'upload' icon right above this script, that must be the trick. Okay, I'll get some photos and post them here Wednesday if everything works out. Thanks for your quick reply.

These photos seem to have uploaded to an ridiculously large size, but here are three photos of the engine in the Oldsmobile Rocket 88 that's been sitting in the woods for fifty years or more and which I am cutting up and taking to the scrapyard. Just let me know if anyone is interested in it. To be honest, it would be easier for me just to cut it out and haul it to the scrapyard with the rest of the car but like most of you, I hate to see anything wasted if it can be useful to someone else. Thanks for your time.

It looks to be a 54 thru 56 324 engine.
It might be worth 2 or 3 hundred dollars as a core.
The Hydra-Matic trans behind it is worth saving too,

I want to thank you for offering that engine up to others. Very cool of you. God bless! I hope someone is able to use it and I hope someone does you a nice favor too! The Good Book says we reap what we sow. You've sown kindness. I know you'll get some back!

You might want to post it for sale on Offer Up too. Good luck finding a buyer.

^^^ X2:

Might as well spread the word as far and wide as you can. Not every Olds enthusiast is a member of CO -- the audience here isn't actually all that big.

You also might try the H.A.M.B. It's a " traditional " ( pre 1965 ) Hot Rodding forum.
The Hokey *** Message Board | The H.A.M.B. (jalopyjournal.com)
A lot of interest there in early " Rocket " Olds engines.

I'm completely new to this site so I'm not sure how this all works but I wanted to thank Charlie Jones and the others who have offered me tips on finding something useful to do with this Rocket 88 engine. With a little luck, that motor will find a new home.

You might try and see if that engine will turn over with a wrench. Getting an engine like that is very hard to separate from the transmission if stuck. It would help sell it if known by someone beforehand. Tedd

@rocket88engine I know this thread is a a few months old, but just seeing if you found a home for this engine. I'm doing a rebuild on the engine in my '56 and after tearing it down, the crankshaft is looking pretty rough, so I may need to replace it. Let me know if you haven't found a buyer. If you still have it, I might be interested. Thanks.
