Disassemble trunk mechanism on 41

Uncle! I cannot figure out how the handle comes apart from the stupid latch mechanism to be able to pull the assembly apart. It wiggles and waggles but will not slide apart. I dont see anything in the GM manual explaining how to do this. I do not have a key so I hope that is not the reason, gulp. Advise? Thanks Pat

Funny I thought someone on this forum would know your fix. Have you tried the AACA forum both Olds, Buick and even Pontiac forums, not as active as here (except Buick) but very knowledgeable people there and they like the old stuff..... Tedd

FYI update to anyone in this hassle, you NEED the key or a good locksmith. After killing another hour plus messing with it I tore the car apart and found 3 keys. Ignition, door and trunk. Naturally they dont interchange so dont loose them! Once keyed in it was all of 5 seconds to disengage the 2 parts and done.
