Window glass loose from mechanism

My window glass on my '68 cutlass comes loose from the mechanism about halfway down. I'm a little leery of taking off the interior paneling to work on it as I know very little about it. Should I go to a shop, and if so, what kind of ballpark am I looking at? Could I just seal the glass to the old rubber retainer with some silicone?

The glass needs to be set back in the channel with a special tape. I suggest you take it to a glass shop who can fix this problem and has experience with old cars since you do not feel comfortable. Some specialty tools may be needed as well.
