Can someone show me a photo or drawing of the correct orientation of the rear motor mounts on a '56 Olds with the 324 Rocket motor and Jetaway/Hydramatic transmission? I have the new mounts, the crossmember is in place, and I can't for the life of me figure out where all of the holes are supposed to line up. I'm replacing the Jetaway with a modified 700R4 from Ross Racing Engines, which is supposed to use the stock crossmember (with a notch cut out for the pan) and stock mounts, but I'm stumped here. Thanks!
None of these transmission swaps are a " bolt in " proposition .
Yes , you do need the stock mounts and crossmember . But , you will need the services of a good welder / fabricator to fit them to this transmission .

Not true. The Ross Racing modified R4 uses the stock mounts with a notched crossmember, but no welding required. What I'm looking for is confirmation of which of the rear motor mounts goes on which side, since they are not marked and are mirror images of one another.
I used the Ross TH-400 conversion to a 394, and had to notch out the crossmember and also had to move it, I think like an inch or two back from the original mounting position. Obviously new holes had to be drilled. I also thought it was a bolt in and go deal, with no modifications to the crossmember. Your results may vary since this was done in a 57. If you still want a picture let me know

If you can tell me which way the rear motor mounts orient that would help do the rubber blocks face the front or the rear of the car?
So here's my question... Where I have the motor mount located now, only the bottom hole in the mount aligns with a threaded hole in the block/bell housing. The top hole lines up with a non-threaded hole in the bell housing on the trans, but there's no hole in the block, threaded or otherwise. Either I'm lining up the mount on the wrong holes, or the stock transmission had a fastener coming from the inside, or???

Looks like the easiest thing to do here is to drill and tap the block , using the hole in the bellhousing on the trans as a guide .
Drill and tap to the same size as the other bolt . Then screw a bolt in it .
When I did replace my mounts on a all stock 1953 Olds w Hydramatic, the line up on the holes did not match.
Ended up with enlarging the holes and weld the old ones.
My two cents...

So an update to this story... Turns out there are 1" spacers that go between the motor mounts and the new bell housing, which I did not receive with the transmission, and the top holes that line up with the rear mounts were drilled, but not threaded in machining. So, after tapping the holes and adding the requisite spacers, I should be able to mount the engine/transmission with no modifications to the stock mounts or crossmember.
