Question about a Dual gate shifter

so a friend of mine heard i wanted a dual gate shifter for my car, he went out and got one from a 1969 GTO. My question is am i able to install this in my car I am a column shifter right now and wanted to switch to center console. I have looked on line and found some people saying it is the same but when I look at pictures of the 69 GTO it looks different then the 69 cutlass one. I also have one other question the shifter came with the mounting brackets but no linkage, do I need to get a neutral safety linkage? Plus can I get a 69 cutlass center console and put this in it? if picture will help i can post them.
I am installing a TH350 so the shifter will get connected to it. Any help would be great.

You need to remember that Pontiac offered the Dual/Gate (His-n-Hers in Pontiac-speak) as a RPO starting 1966. Olds offered it as part of the 68-69 Hurst/Olds package and it was a standard-issue Hurst Dual/Gate adapted to the Hurst/Olds' mini-console, since Hurst/Olds were technically aftermarket conversions. Hurst designed Pontiac's specifically to work with the GTO's full-length console and Olds didn't get that luxury until 1970.

I think a 70-72 Olds D/G with console will bolt into your car easier than the 69 Pontiac unit, but you can make it work with some effort. You need the neutral start stuff and probably a specific D/G shift cable to pull it off.

Also consider 1969 Cutlass was still using the shorty console for automatic floorshift cars. IDK if a Dual/Gate will work in one of those or not.

another thought...

PJ,
if you are not THAT worried about originality a 69 gto console will also fit in your car with no problems. I know you currently dont have a console, it would look like it belong albeit not exactly correct.

I think the dual gate is AWESOME!!!
