Question about Muncie vs Saginaw
Question about Muncie vs Saginaw
Will either work in a 72 cutlass supreme convertible? Would an automatic car have any interchangeable brackets under the dash or do you have to start from scratch? Does the crank have to come out and be drilled or is there a kit for that?
Propaneking, I pulled this out to make a new thread as I think you'll get a better response this way.
The parts on your car that will need to be changed are all bolt on items, except for the crank. There is a pilot bearing you can install in the automatic crank, but most people here who've used them don't recommend them. The best would be to pull the crank and have it drilled, or actually cut on a lathe.
Here's a link to an old thread with some pictures and a good drawing of how the crank needs to be cut for the pilot bearing or bushing. John

The crank should be drilled or bored in a lathe so the hole is dead center. The Muncie is a lot stronger than the Saginaw, but both fit with the caveat that you need to match the input splines with the clutch disc you select, and the output shaft can be 27 spline, like powerglides, or 32 spline like the Turbo 400. Some late trannies may be 1/2" longer than the others. You will need the bolt on bracket on the frame for the Z bar, the ball stud in the block (make sure your block has the threaded hole), and the rods and pedal assembly.
