I just noticed a leak that appears to be coming from the TCS connection on the trans near the cooler lines on my 1971 Cutlass. Oddly enough it seems to be only happening, or at least happening more in reverse. It sounds like the common solution is to just remove it and plug the hole. Is this OK to do on these cars? If so is it as simple as just tucking the connector somewhere safe and plugging the hole or is there more to remove/modify?
That system is a primitive emissions control that prevents vacuum advance until the engine is warmed up to temperature and the transmission is in high gear. So if you remove that wire from the transmission, the engine will run better and be more responsive, and your gas mileage may increase. All due to the vacuum advance working all the time instead of only when the trans is in third gear.
After this post I dug up a vacuum diagram and did some more looking online. It looks like someone already took out most of the pieces related to this system, haha. The "DTVS" sitting at the front of the intake manifold is the main part of this right? It appears that it is where the wires from the trans connect to as well as a vacuum line on top and 3 on the sides.
In my case all 4 of those ports are plugged and my distributor advance comes right off manifold vacuum. So unless I am over looking something I don't see why I can't remove the piece on the trans and plug it. I suppose I could clean up things a bit and remove the piece from the intake and the wiring too. I just need to find out what size plug I need. I would prefer to have one ready to install in case fluid start coming out but I think if the passenger side is jacked up enough it shouldn't lose too much

The sensor on the trans should be 1/8 pipe thread. You won’t lose very much fluid when you remove the switch.
im guessing the sensor on the manifold is 3/4 pipe.
Thanks everyone! For some reason I didn't get notifications of the replies. I have the 1/8" plug (brass was all I could find) so I will get that done and hopefully stop the leak. I will get the rest removed soon too.
