Olds 350, pilot bushing vs conversion pilot bearings vs chebby bearing?
Olds 350, pilot bushing vs conversion pilot bearings vs chebby bearing?
Almost positive my 330 crank in my 350 is set up for the factory pilot bushing. Doesn't the input shaft need shortened on the T-56 or TKX with a pilot bushing? My understanding that drilling is needed for the Olds conversion bearing and sbc pilot bearing, correct? My crank is at the machine shop and will get them to order a sbc pilot bearing if it is easier to get and will work. Thanks in advance.
If your crank is drilled for a manual transmission, you do not need to make any modifications at all. The bushing or bearing will be the same size to fit in the crank, and there will be plenty of space for the input shaft to run through it.
If your crank is for an automatic, you'll need to machine it. There are two drawings floating around:

I ended up giving the shop a bearing so they could nail the tolerancing.
Shortening the input shaft is a trick done by people using a conversion bearing with an automatic crank (no drilling). From what I've seen, that is a pretty hit or miss solution.

Oldsmaniac is correct, Oldsmobile uses a pilot bearing (#7109), Chevrolet uses a bronze pilot bushing. They are different outside diameter and I believe different length so one cannot be used in place of the other. If your 330 crankshaft is bored for the Olds pilot bearing, it should also be bored deep enough for the transmission input shaft; see the drawings in post #2 above. The Olds pilot bearing, #7109, is readily available.
There are bushings available for the Olds if you don't want to run a bearing:

I ran a bearing, but some people don't like them and want a bushing instead.
