Transmission swap in 62 Starfire

I want to upgrade my transmission in my 62 Starfire convertible. Get rid of the slim Jim and install a more modern trans. Which trans can I use and what problems will I run in to.
Monster trans in Florida has the complete setup for a GM 700r4 install. Would that require much modification.
Thanks for any feedback
Dennis

The best conversion trans I have seen is a kit by Tony Ross , Of Ross Racing engines.
It requires no floorpan mods to install .
The front part of the trans case is cut off , and a special bellhousing is bolted to the front pump.
These are available as complete transmissions , empty cases , or just the bellhousing .
See this thread;

This is a link to Tony's websight , however it is probably best to give him a call at 330-544-4466. I think he may be doing overdrive transmissions now .

The kits that Monster Trans offers will only fit Chevys or 65 & up Buick, Olds , and Pontiac. Not a 394 Olds .

Here's another option for adapting later model transmissions to your 394.
