Question 1964 Olds Dynamic 88 Engine Swap - Transmission

Hello,

I have a 1964 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 394 with a 1959 Hydra-matic transmission. It has slipped in second gear for a long time. I would like to see what it would take to swap out the engine and transmission for a later model transmission and a 455 Oldsmobile.

What type or engine mounts and transmission mounts will I need? I would like to still run the Dual Carbs and have dual exhaust.

Could the Linkage cause the transmission to slip in second gear? Can I unhook the kickdown linkage to see if it would shift correctly? My dad always thought it was the smaller torque converter which controls 2nd gear. He isn't here anymore so I can't ask him.

What do you think?

I am looking to install a 425 with a 400 tranny in my 64 88 convertible. Any insight on how you did it would be a great help. I have the engine mocked up roughly where it needs to be and debating on wether to use a custom cross member or make custom mounts using a 65-67 engine mounts. Dean

We all appreciate that you're looking for info and we're happy to provide it, but posting the same question on a bunch of four and five year old threads is probably not the best way to get info. I suspect that you'll avoid confusing responses if you stick to one thread for your topic. No criticism intended, I'm simply suggesting that resurrecting a four year old thread is not the best way to get a useful response.
