Throttle valve 54 88

This trans has flared on shifts since I’ve owned it but I haven’t driven it much. Today I decided to check and adjust the lineage through the process I discovered the throttle lever has about a half inch of throw. So I can only open the throttle about half way. Unhook the rod to the TV lever and everything works perfect linkage wise. I’m sure there is a problem with the internal linkage or the valve it’s self. Either way I assume this is my flare problem. How much throw should the lever have? Also any advise once I get the cover off?

"Flaring" on shifts means simply bands need the adjustment procedure. This is a matter of maintenance, the procedure is in a service manual. if you don't care to buy the tools you can rent or maybe borrow them. yes get the linkage adjusted and operating correctly for travel and limits. Fluid age and condition might make you think about new fluid as well. Good luck ~
