Shudders in reverse when cold

Hi everyone,

I have 1968 442 with 400/400. Can you tell me why I may have developed a shudder in reverse when it is not completely at running temp ? I have a drip at the pinion gear when it sits for a bit, but it seals up when I drive it.
Thank you for any info.

Is it an engine shudder or a drivetrain shudder. It could be the passenger engine mount, trans mount, Ujoint, etc... Or if its engine, check your tune up settings.

Drivetrain, and only when cold.

My Dad and Grandpa from Muscogee by the way.. not too far from you. Grandpa moved to Eagle River Alaska then retired back to Grand lake.

fluid level?

fluid level is good? I am assuming you checked that, forward is no issue I am also assuming? because the fluid heats up a little gets thinner and flows easier, so maybe a tranny service is in order, gunk build up maybe on the filter? but only in reverse is also puzzling if thats the case.

It's not slipping. It just has a weird vibration when first drive. Gonna get rear end serviced.
thanks for taking the time

Maybe the rear brakes aren't releasing all the way when you release the parking brake and are dragging. then when you move is forward they retract and the problem is gone.
