Transmissioin coolant lines

On a 69 455 FWD does it matter where the trans coolant lines connect to the radiator?

According to my 70 service manual, the feed from the transmission first enters the radiator cooler at the bottom port, and then returns to the transmission from the top port. If an additional air cooler is used, it is placed downstream of the radiator cooler and it is fed from the top port of the radiator cooler. From the air cooler the fluid then returns to the transmission.
