I did a TKX in my 71 resto.....no cutting. Same case size as the Muncie. Very happy with it and the performance with my engine.

I had to cut a small hole for clearance in my '70. According to the tech I spoke with, it's not uncommon. This was with the supplied Energy Suspension mount and stock rear transmission support.

I have not, but I talked with one of the companies, Bowler or Modern Driveline, maybe a different one, I cant recall. They told me it would be close. I can say that the tunnel on my 64 is very tight around a muncie. Its just not in one place either but the tunnel is tight all the way down the length of my M20. I'll be very interested in what you come up with, but I would talk with the suppliers and see if they have actual success stories

I would agree with Mattking. From my experience with the early A-bodys I don't believe the TKX is a drop in because I don't think the floor pans are the same and 68 on up the frame is a little wider. I'm sure it will work for you just not 100 percent sure it's a drop in fit .It should the same is dropping a TKX in a 64-65 Chevelle -ask the Chevy guys.

The 1964-67 A-body cars all use essentially the same floorpan. This vendor claims to have modified the TKX for the early Chevelles.

American Powertrain also offers a TKX kit for the early A-body cars.

"600ft/lb"
A BBO will do that standing on its water pump.

Just installed a TKX in my '65 442, only had to move the shifter opening back by 3/4" to keep shifter centered and had to buy the Tremic offset shifter mount, not cheap but worth it.

Does your 65 have the factory console?

Yes factory console so need to center console over shifter by moving brackets as needed.
Also since mine is convertible have to move cross member back and weld in brackets further back to bolt the cross member brackets to, which I haven't done yet, see photos.

Did you re-use your factory shift lever?

It's back on BaT, this time at No Reserve: No Reserve: 1964 Oldsmobile F-85 Cutlass Convertible 4-Speed for sale on BaT Auctions - ending July 2 (Lot #198,787) | Bring a Trailer In December-2024, it was bid to $15,964.

And I have to give the seller props for persistence: "KylePollock (The Seller) This car is a custom order car, what’s known as a B09 build 442. Air conditioner and factory 3 speed." And "This car was badged 442 from the factory."

I'm posting this picture here for an awareness on what the proper TKX shifter location and setup should be for the 1964-1972 Oldsmobile. Having the shifter body on center with a 2-1/2" left offset handle receiver will not work very well in your tunnel or a console.

That is true for the 1964-69 cars, but for the 1970-72 cars with console you want the centered position for the stick. The non-console cars still use the offset stick.

I was referring to the username "RAG" that his shifter setup on center will not work very well.

My 2-1/2" off center shifter setup "will work very well"!

Joe,

These pics are just you and the 1970-1972 Oldsmobile crowd.

I was involved with the Legend LGT700 S07 (2-1/2" left Chevelle) and the S09 (1970-1972 Olds) models and shift postions.

Here is my offering for a TKX bolt on shifter for the 1970-1972 Oldsmobile to fit the Hurst 4 speed tunnel hump.
