Corvette 6 speed

will a 6 speed manual from 2008 Corvette work in a 69 442? What mods will be required

It would be a transaxle in that year, t56/tr6060 but they used a tail housing with diff in it to make a trans axle. Don’t think it’s worth the effort to convert to a standard one but may be wrong. Unless you want to put it in the back with irs, that’d be cool.

It wouldn't be worth the effort to convert. By the time you put the money and effort into it, you could find a good used one with the correct tail shaft housing.

Thanks again for your reply I wasn’t even thinking of the transaxle issue. Guess I shouldn’t try thinking after happy hour starts

Here's what I needed to put a Viper 6-speed behind my 455...
  • An adapter plate (to mate the different bolt patterns).
  • The trans tunnel had to be cut completely away and a new one substituted (to give room for this beast).
  • Plus the usual work for three pedals, clutch linkage, and new driveshaft.
  • An automatic console so I could cut in a 4-speed adapter 3" farther back than stock (to line up with the shift lever).
  • An upholstery shop to sew front carpet (to cover the new tunnel).
  • A higher numerical rear axle gear (to get good launch).
The tunnel cut included one of the body reinforcements. That took a bit more thinking to restore its function--eventually combined the reinforcing function with a U-joint loop of 6 x 1/4 plate.

It was a bit of work but all easy to figure out other than the body reinforcement.

First gear performance is a bit zippier than before.

They now sell complete kits for this job, but as Car Craft says, WTF--where's the fun?

It was an enjoyable project. Good luck with yours.

After giving consideration to the fact that the 08 Vette trans would require massive mods to my all stock 69 442 with it's stock 4 speed tranny, if I decide to going forward with adding a 5 or 6 speed tranny I will give more consideration to a Tremac T 56 or other like conversions.
I do appreciate all comments as to what would work best requiring the least of mods.
Currently this swap are only in the "thinking about it" stage.
Thanks for all comments

Maybe consider a TKO 5-speed. Don't have to cut the tunnel as much and also bolts right to a regular 4spd bellhousing

Might be the way to go. That way you don't ruin it for the guy you might want to sell it to who wants it all factory. The less butchering, the better.

The only part of my tunnel I had to cut was a spot for the shifter, though there are spots that are close is does fit. What I did notice is the tranny mount pad on the tail housing sits about an in or so further away from tailshaft center line so if you don’t compensate for it( I compensated in the crossmember) it will sit higher and maybe that’s why some people cut the tunnel? https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-olds-how.html
