Automatic to 4 speed conversion

What is the failure rate of the automatic to 4 speed conversion without drilling the crank? Those who have chosen to do the roller bearing procedure and shorten the transmission without drilling the crank how satisfied are you? I have a 72 cutlass 350.

I don't like the idea of cutting the pilot shaft. I think you should be able to drill a clearance hole with a rented Magnetic drill. Otherwise I haven't herd any complaints.
