automatic column shift conversion to floor console
automatic column shift conversion to floor console
Any good references for a column shift conversion to a stock auto floor shift for a 68 442? I picked up an original console with shifter however, not sure what else I need to hook up to TH400. Also need a good reference guide to show makeup of auto shifter...I think the one I have needs a spring but not sure?? Also the placement of the shifter and if I need to weld it in or just use bolts would be great info.
As always thanks to this invaluable technical forum resource!

Shifter uses sheet metal screws to bolt it to the floor. You still use the linkage to the column for the neutral safety switch. You need to read some treads in the trans forum. There are several with the same topic.
Thanks guys....will do on the trans section review...must have missed 'em. Also, ...much appreciate the offer on the floor shift steering column. May get back to you on that one if I can't work the magic on my current one....it's got tilt! Had some luck at this column thing with a 65 GOAT...some years back is the only problem...memory thing I guess.
Not for 1968. The NSS/backup switch is on the shifter. The use of the backdrive linkage with floor shift cars came about after the feds mandated that the shifter lock with the key. That only applies to the 1969 model year and newer.
Ok I didn't know that learn something new every day.
