67 jetaway into a 65 cutlass!
67 jetaway into a 65 cutlass!
Will a 65 jetaway and a 67 jetaway interchange? I am having problems with torq converter being 2 tight and won't turn when bell housing bolts bolted to 330 v8! Torq converter seems to be seated in the front pump! Question is can you turn torq converter when it is all bolted together or do you have to do torq converter bolts before you tighten bell housing bolts?
Are you sure that the torque converter is installed properly? It doesn't sound like it as there shouldn't be an issue. If you force it, you will ruined it. Make sure that the torque converter is fully seated with the tabs on the pump. You may have to turn it with a light pressure towards the transmission until you feel it lock in on the pump.
First make sure torque converter is properly seated/installed to transmission. Tighten bell housing and check the gap between converter lugs and fly wheel. Looking for a gap of 1/8 inch to max 3/16. Shim it if need be, to get to 1/8. If gap is too much or too little you will have serious issues. Then torque the converter bolts. At that point the converter won't turn unless you rotate the flywheel/crankshaft as well.

The converter must "jump" back two times to be fully seated into the front pump. Push back on lift and rotate the converter until it seats. It easier if the transmission is out and standing up, spin the converter and it will jump twice and into place.
To answer the original question, all 1964-69 Olds Jetaway transmissions use exactly the same case, so yes they will interchange. Your issue isn't the trans, it's the fact that the converter isn't inserted all the way into the pump. Unfortunately you may have damaged the notches on the converter or the drive dogs on the pump if it was forced into place that way.
