Torque Convertor Clearance Issues

So I went to install my new torque convertor and when doing so, there is minimal clearance to the flexplate. It will move freely, but is definitely rubbing. The TC seems to be seated properly. I have tapped with a mallet and it seems to be solid. I am only getting 7/8" clearance from the pad to bellhousing when it should be ~1-1/8" clearance. It appears to theoretically have room to move back before it hits the pump, but I can't seem to get it to move. I am definitely turning the pump and have tried moving it 180 degrees and seating in alternate tabs, but get the same result. Measurements from the new TQ match the old so it is not that. Transmission has been totally rebuilt by me a year or 2 ago. Any thoughts on what I might have assembled incorrectly to cause this? Any tips on getting the TQ to sit back another 1/8-3/16"? I'm running out of ideas here.

Could the flexplate be on backward? I don't recall if that is even possible or if it is offset.

If the converter wasn't all the way seated the bell housing wouldn't have mated flush to the engine block. Did it mount up flush without being drawn in with bolts?

Did the converter jump back inward two times while rotating it?

Are you certain they didnt make the converter for use with a midplate ? That makes the pads about 1/8" to 1/4" taller.

Problem solved. Input shaft was bottoming out before fully seated. I ground @1/8" off the taper on the input shaft. All good now.
