You can remove the heads with the bolts in place. Well, loose, but still just sitting in the head. Just remember to have them sitting in the holes when you drop the head back on.
It's only a problem when using studs. Then you're pretty stuck. I'd still consider pulling the engine to be easier than pulling the A/C box!!

Pull the engine? I just got it in there last summer! Lol. Good point about leaving the bolts in. I wouldn't have thought of that. ALthough is puling the AC box that hard? I've had it out before. But it was a few years ago?

I swapped heads on a 70 Cutlass S with a 455 many, many moons ago. It can definitely be done without removing the A/C box.

Thanks Randy, I appreciate it. That would definitely be less work.

Anyone have a recommendation for valves? I prefer Summit.

Whichever valves your machinist uses.
I wouldn't buy off-the-shelf valves and just drop them in a head. Way too many things to go wrong. And I've had several exhaust valves seize because the machinist didn't know WTF he was doing.

Greetings,
Do you have a picture of this here "seat springs"that you found in the toilet area. I'm going to go look tomorrow and not sure what I'm looking for.....
