TH350 vacuume modulator

Anyone know if its possible for the diaphram in the vacuume modulator to fail and for the motor to suck transmission fluid in through the vacuume hose? Today my motor started smoking pretty bad. A few miles later it doesn't shift out of first anymore. I was home so I just parked it and walked away. So I have no info on milky oil or levels of fluid. Tomorrows a new day.

Yes, typical failure mode. Replace it and you’re good to go.

Well, before buying any new parts, simply pull the hose off the modulator at the trans. If trans fluid drips out, you have your answer. If not, look elsewhere.

Changed the modulator and all is good in the world again. Can't tell you how dissapointed I was when I saw all that smoke. I thought for sure I hurt something on my last 6000 RPM pull. So excited it was that simple. Gonna buy a lottery ticket tomorrow. Feeling lucky.
