Also Should I go for the complete master kits or should I Just go with regular stage 4 kit? The difference is the steel and friction modules.
I have already put a 10 vane pump in it and put spacers in the place of the spring for the shift to second gear. Is there any suggestions on what I should do as far as upgrade while I am in there? There is nothing wrong with trans I just want to get the stock clutches out of it so I don't have to worry about it crapping out on me. Its is in an 84 cutlass supreme with a mild olds 350. I am running a tci lock up kit off of vacuum. Like I said the trans is working fine.

Other than the kit what should be replaced? The trans is from an 87 307 powered car I already have another servo

 

Try pheonix transmission parts on ebay. Their kits have the raybestos red clutches . I was going to but the kit for my th350 rebuild but since I wanted the b&m instructions I bought the b&m kit. But I have another core I'm doing and I'll be buying the masterkit from pheonix.

 

Have you considered putting any hardened parts in your 2004R? I've heard the 2004R is weak behind built 350s and 455s. I believe a hardened ouput shaft is one of the many upgrades done to improve the 2004R.

 

There are several well-documented weak points in the 200-4R, NONE of which are addressed by this kit. At a minimum you need to use a hardened stator shaft and a billet shaft forward drum. I strongly suggest you contact CK Performance about parts. As an example, I spend $1200 (not counting a converter) for the parts to build a 200-4R to live behind a 455. You get what you pay for.

 

Chris at CK knows his way around a 2004r. I agree with Joe on the stator support tube, and the forward drum is a nice-have but probably not needed with a mild 350. If you ever think you might turn up the wick on the engine then put the better parts in during the rebuild. The downtime and tow will probably more than cover the extra expense.

Probably the first thing you need to buy is CK 2004R book. Its very in-depth and gives excellent instructions on building this trans to survive. Money well spent.

 

hi,my other car is a grand national with a 200r4,i'll have to admit this tranny is finicky but you get it set up right,it will do the job.as far as people for this job,i've had nothing but success with art carr from calif.when you call there i'ts art that answers the phone!!.he'll build you a good tranny.i will be putting one in my '66 behind a 425.aiming for 25mpg...
