200r4

Having a new engine built and I'm probably going to go with a th400 from ATI. I've been looking through some older threads on 200r4 swaps and they got me thinking,I know this topic has been beatin to death.

What would be needed to successfully replace a th400 with a 200r4 in a 1968 442 convertible?

I would probably get the 200r4 from CK Performance.

What about maintaining the factory floor shifter? Or modifying it? Is there a kit available? From who?

What else would be needed?

Thanks guys!

Shiftworks makes a conversion for your stock floor shifter. I used there kit for my 65 and it works great. I wrote up an install on this product here. I'm sure if you lookup threads started by me you will find it. 2004r is a great upgrade to these old cars.
I owned the same color 68 Cutlass Conv like yours back in the late 70's, loved that car, also owned a 68 442 HT in the same color with the fender strip, dumbest thing I ever did was to part it out.

Not highjacking But - How about a Hurst dual gate? Will it work? Any answers appreciated. If I would have to give up the slam shift into gears, then I would say no. For the cost of a good 2004r for a big block, I might just go gear vendors with the split shift for fun. 6 speeds including overdrive.

The Shiftworks kit works fine on the dual gates. You don't lose the slam/slap shift feature and the neutral position is now OD. Reverse and neutral and kind of crammed together which takes getting use to, but it works ok.

I just finished putting a 200-4R in my 71 442. Keep in mind my car is a 71, but it should be the same. Basically what you need is a Cutlass TH350 driveshaft and yoke. The yoke from a TH400 does not fit the 200-4R. I received a complete driveshaft for free (thanks coppercutlass!) all I had to do is have it shortened because it came from a full sized car. I'm not sure if you just replaced the yoke on your TH400 shaft if it would work, length wise that is. You may have to have it cut or lengthened.
