Headers for a 1972 Toronado?

Looking into possible getting a set of headers for my '72 Toro; does anyone make a direct fit Header for these cars, or will it be a huge pain in the butt?

I doubt there are aftermarket headers made for any Toronado. You probably need to get an exhaust shop custom fabricate a set for you if your serious about installing headers. FWIW, I wouldn't bother. I have full length headers on my 71 98 and they're a PITA to install and keep presentable.

There are no headers for Toros because there is no demand for them. The GMC motorhome community has a set available. They do not fit the Toro chassis without significant mods.

Never thought of the GMC motorhomes. Here's a listing I found with a quick search.

A good exhaust shop would probably manufacture the headers from scratch vs. modifying an existing set.

I think you are optimistic. "Good" exhaust shops are few and far between these days, and the parts-changers who work there are unlikely to have the first clue about how to fabricate headers. The few exhaust shops who still bend their own tubes do not typically have mandrel benders, and the traditional crimped bends used for exhaust systems will not be suitable for headers, and are unlikely to even be small enough radius. I also doubt they would have the first clue about selecting tube diameter and length to flow properly, or the skill to route primary tubes with near equal length. Heck, most actual header manufacturers don't have that skill, as evidenced by the commercial headers that use obviously unequal primary tube lengths.

These Flowtech headers are possibly the worst "full length" headers I've ever seen as far as non-matching primary tubes (and you know not to get me started on shortie headers... )

As Joe said. For those not in the know. Equal tube length on headers is critical.

While the Hedman Hedders I have on my 71 98 fit superbly I don't think I would run headers again on a classic vehicle. In fact, headers are available for the 6.9l/7.3l IDIs in my classic Ford Bullnose truck. However, I'm not interested in buying them.

There is an exhaust shop in OKC I would feel safe using for any exhaust work. I don't know whether or not his work is "scientifically dyno tuned." But he's done work on both of my Oldsmobiles. I need to bring my truck to him to get some work done.

You're fortunate. They are a dying breed, unfortunately.
