Mondello Toronado headers?

Mondello's claims to have headers for the series 1 Toronados, but they have no photos of them available..
Anybody seen them?
Bought and installed them?
I would be very interested to see photos and hear how they fit.

Thanks

The ones I've seen were designed for the GMC Motorhome chassis. I don't know if they are the same parts or not. Definitely NOT inexpensive.

Apparently Doug Thorley does (did?) make headers for the motorhome also:

Hi I purchase a set of Doug Thorley headers for my 71. They are on it but I had to modify the passengers side, the drivers side went on fairly easy except I had to add an extention over the steering shaft.Very time consuming but doable.

Give me a couple of days.Im going to need help posting them on the site.Have plenty of pics just dont know how to post them.I have taken them with my I phone.....Word of advice. Dont buy them already Jet coated because if you have to cut them you will just have to redo it again anyway. Big expense...

I think a Cadillac 500 is a completely different motor than an Olds 455 or 425, meaning that Caddy headers won't bolt to an Olds motor.

And here's where some common sense should be kicking in:

These are the Cad headers. Note the exhaust port spacing and bolt locations:

These are Oldsmobile exhaust gaskets. Look closely at the port location and bolt spacing - and NUMBER of bolts.

And finally, headers for a GMC motorhome with a Toro drive look like this:

heres the answer they gave me:

Same chassis, different engine. Our headers fit in a Toronado with a Caddy engine, exactly the same as they fit in an Eldo.

However, they Caddy flange will not fit an Olds engine. If you want headers for an Olds powered Toro, you could buy the headers, and a set of Olds flanges, and change the flanges (cut the Caddy flanges off, weld the Olds flanges on). Or, I could have the factory build you set with Olds flanges, for $595. In that case, you can choose 1 ¾” or 2” mild steel, or 1 7/8” Stainless (a little more money). We’d have to go over details, but I don’t see a problem with doing that, if that’s what you want. Is there not a header available at all for the Toronado?

Sorry, this answer is B.S. The port spacing is different and the block deck height is different. How do you cut the Cad flanges off and weld the pipes to Olds flanges when the center two ports (and pipes) are separated on the Caddy but siamesed on the Olds. The Olds exhaust flange is in a different location relative to the crank centerline than is the Caddy flange. This guy has no clue.

yeah...you are right.

but i guess the problem on toronados is the same as there is on eldorados...FWD..big engine and TH425..the flange is a different story..although it affects the routing..

doug thorley answered too:

Honestly on that application there is now way to be sure. We have never
heard that anyone has tried it for that. That thy-355y-c header was specific
to the motorhome as far as we could tell. You may want to give it a shot and
let us know that would be great
.

would be great to find a motorhome guy to buy the headers if it turns out they will never fit...even with slight modifications.

Yeah, THAT'S helpful... "Buy our product, experiment on your nickel, then tell us if that application works so we can increase our market share."

Look again at the motorhome headers I showed above. They are very long tube tri-Y headers designed for increasing low RPM torque. The motorhome engine compartment is much larger than the Toro engine compartment, and the header design likely tops out at 3,000 RPM or so.

The fact remains that headers for a Toro didn't have a very big target market when those cars were new and CERTAINLY don't justify the expense of developing a set now. Sorry, but you can't just order parts from a catalog for every car ever made. If you really want headers (and frankly I doubt the benefit), you will have to make them yourself or pay dearly for someone else to make them.
