GM old Lubricants - specs?

Good day all,

I was looking to regrease my '66 Toronado outer CV axle while I'm replacing the boot. The CSM calls for GM lubricant # 1050530 but I don't see anything in there that tells me what it actually is. Does anyone have an old spec sheet for these old vintage greases? I assume it's some moly fortified lithium grease.

I'd use wheel bearing grease available at your local auto parts store. I'm sure there are specific ways to measure wheel bearing grease, but a modern version will probably be far superior to anything available years ago. Plus, you'd be hard pressed to justify spending extra on NOS fluids for a concours restoration.

I would think whatever grease they use in modern CV joints would be adequate.

Oh I'm not doing anything like that. I just want to buy something that is along the same lines of what was in there originally......a modern version so to speak.

NAPA sells specific CV joint grease, Sta-Lube makes one and RedLine CV2 specifically says it is for CV joints, GKN Loebro makes a specific CV grease.

Don't overthink this. Get a CV joint grease and call it good. The parts do not need, nor will care, about the specific molecular composition.

That's just it though. You can't buy something called "CV joint grease" off the shelf here, you can only get that stuff in a package as part of a "Boot Kit" that costs......you guessed it, well over 50 bucks here. I just need some grease. Something that will work in a CV joint and I don't want to pay 50 bucks for it on principle. So I'm not overthinking it, just trying to use some common sense.

No idea. Canada gets the shaft on lots of things like this. Anyway, I'm not gonna stress too much on this LOL. It's getting some 3% moly lithium based grease. I'm sure it will be fine.

CRC Sta-Lube is $11 US on Amazon. I agree it will likely be fine.
