Well that would suck, was it used or touted as brand new? I have seen lots of them with so much corrosion there was serious doubt whether the water pump would seal or not.

It's brand new and i just checked to see if it is flat , and found it is .040 con cave across the water pump ports. and the lip on the bottom is lower , not sure how much yet, this will drop the oil pan rubber a little lower , which may or may not hurt depending on how much lower.

I ordered an under-seat storage box for a Silverado pickup a few years back...was a good deal, but still a bit pricey, and I disappointed to see that it had been damaged either during shipping or before (seemed to me it was unlikely to have been damaged during shipping because it was so well packed and the outer box looked fine_. After I contacted them with my concern, they sent a nother one no questions asked. Give them a chance to make good.

So, what do you plan to do to solve your need of a front cover? Do you have another source? As I doubt you will re-order from gmpartsdirect. Me being the fabricator I tend to be (notice I didn't precede that with the word good?) I would be tempted to try and correct the concavity and lower lip on my own, but probably not a good idea.

Well, since any Sbo front cover should work, it shouldn't be a problem finding another.

Actually, any 64-90 Olds big or small block front cover (except 64 394) will work. As for the one you bought being new, since you got it from gmpartsdirect I suspect it's an N.O.S. part. The last one was stamped by the factory 17 years ago, so this one is at least that old. It's unfortunate that the one you received was damaged, but things do happen. I agree that you should give them a chance to make good.
