Rear end I am going back and forth S60, Ford 9 or 12 bolt. 8.5 would die for sure. The way I am going Gears Jammer in HighwayStar. Best to sell my well maintain 8.5.

Don't sell that 8.5 short. It's as good as a 12 bolt Chevy. I've seen guys run them with slicks with no issues.

Hi Mike, You did a great job on my 8.5. But this new engine will break it. 650+- hp and 8,000+ rpm. Full throttle gear changes is fine for the engine you built and the one I replace it with. Axle tubes are way to thin, I am told. And the cost to upgrade axles and internals. Just get a stronger one. Best to get good money for it. To use to get something stronger.

The Strange S60 is the way to go;. Interesting to see how much your beefed up 2004R takes. There is always the 4L80E, shitty gearing as is and converters are $$$ for it. But 900 HP is supposed to be no issue with minor upgrades.

Back in 86-ish Gary John’s bought one of Warren Johnson’s Calais he had. He built a 342 cubic inch nascar block, Siamesed port heads ( they were made by oldsmobile not batten) 2 dominators, tunnel ram. I believe he still holds the B gas record at 8.04 he shifted at 8800…went through the lights at 9500
he still has the car and a bunch of blocks, engines etc that he’ll die with

I am sticking with the 2004R. Its what came with my 84 H/O. Lonnie said it good for 700HP. We will see.

I been to two small barns full of rare blocks and parts. In bum-f**k Utah. Mostly Fords and 3 D blocks and one DX in one. Their dad had passed and the kids were going to sell it all for scrap metal. Whatever they could not sell fast.

Not a drag racer. I am just a 17 year old in a 66 year old body. I ask Bill for a cam that is explosive at higher rpm. Shifting 8,000 with my shifter.

Told by many who see me driving, I drive with a smile from ear to ear.

No but the 8.5 has bigger axles than a 12 bolt Chevy. The 12 bolt Chevy axles taper down between the splines and the bearing where the 8.5 does not. That's with stock axles and if you're not running slicks I doubt very seriously the 8.5 will break.

Mike, I had the axles out to install the disc brakes in 2008. I know I counted the splines. But do not remember if it was 28 or 30. Would you remember? Even the list of what you had done to the car. Is long gone, lost to hard drive failing.

Well you got your wish. The 2 1/2'' year old Continental tires. One started to deform on the sidewall. Almost like the rubber is dried out. Out with the old into the new. New 17 x 10 rims showed up today. Now to get the bat and shoe horn to fit,

Well here it is 656HP @ 7,000 rpm 562.5 lb-ft @ 5,400 rpm😁. 418 cu in 1.569hp per cu in. He did not take it all the way to 8,000 rpm like I asked. Stop at 7,300 because it was not making any higher HP.
If I was there, I would of signed a release and have him take it to at least 8,000 if not a little more. Bill said it would make around 700 with 2'' spacer and a little more work on heads and intake. But would not fit under the hood or be street able. I can live with what it is. My goal had always been for the 650 range.

Bill Trovato,I knew what I wanted. And you delivered! After carefully deciding who will build this Nascar HP block. Without a doubt, I made the right choice. Thanks for fixing the multiple oddities. Of the block, heads and intake. Wish I was there. I would have you run it up to 8,000. To see it maintain power in the 600's. I know this engine will just keep pulling to 8,000. Thank you again.

Bill Trovato
Kenny Van Dam. Like you, thank you John Vuolo for letting me do what needed to be done. He pretty much gave me creative control.

Vuolo, is Italian for handsome brave warrior.

Also a Corp 8.5 has a larger diameter cross pin shaft than a Type C 12 bolt and stronger spider gears,,,,, a weak link on oem style clutch posi drag racing.. Just changed to a Powertrrax Pro torsen worm gear type diff in our 454 C10 that shattered the spiders finally last year on a 4 year old Yukon OEM style unit (truck 12 bolt)

Congrats on the awesome HP and TQ ! Very cool !!!

Thanks, I am going to surprise a few people on the highway. Need to find how many splines in this one. The 8.5 axle tubes are thin and only spot welded. I may just baby it around until I get a 9''.

What is the engine torque in the 3-5000 range?
This would be nice to know for an engine that will be used on the street.

Not sure, but being that the internals are very light weight. And short stroke. It will spin-up very fast, 52.3 lbs. crank - Balance bobweight of 1656 gr.

I did ask Bill for a cam with expositive high end.

A cam on a earlier engine I had. It did have great toque on the lower end. With expositive high end.

Running even with guys, for the first couple of hundred feet. But at 5,000 rpm or so, huge power. I wave by by.

Keep in mind this is car has Lighting Rods with full control of what gear i am in. Never letting my foot off the gas. Red line now min 7,300. But can take to 8,000+ if it still pulling. I have 40 years experience using them.

I have a question: How come there's around 100 HP of correction factor @ 505 feet altitude?
