Header install

Header install

Hey guys, well i finally got a chance to install my SB ARH's today, and they are hitting the drivers side motor mount right on the top of the mount. I really don't want to ding up the header, so i am looking for suggestions. I thought about cutting the rubber, and grinding the steel on the motor mount but i figured that the mount was designed like it is for a purpose. The motor has Edelbrock heads, and new motor mounts.

Grind a little of the mount back, sometimes the mounts they use in production of the headers I imagine aren't the same ones that are available in every single parts store. That, and variation between motor mount manufactures can cause issues like this, as well. Just grind it back a little, see what happens. Unfortunately, the driver's side takes the most of the force when the engine is at full throttle.

Just use a solid mount on the drivers side. It will give you more clearance and limit motor movement at the same time. That is what I run.

Hey chadman where can I get a set of solid motor mounts? What are the pros and cons?

Pros.......it keeps the motor from twisting.

Cons.......it puts added stress on the area of the #4 main web and can crack.

Just to clarify I only run a solid mount on the drivers side. The other side is a standard mount. The drivers side is the one that takes the stretching force. This gives you more vibration damping than all solid. Like Nick said, some claim solid mounts can stress the block but I don't see it as a problem at the street/strip power level. I know guys running solids at much higher power levels than me without issues.

I could build you a solid mount. It is really quite simple. Three pieces of 5/16" thick steel, four holes and a couple of welds.

Granted mine wasn't a street motor. Higher RPM launches but shyt does happen .
