Upcoming header install on 455 in 64 body

I just read the most recent header installation tips and was wondering if there are any snags I'm going to encounter trying to get a set of hooker headers on a 455 I'm dropping in my 64 F85? The tubes are large and look like a pain already... Are the headers going to have to be laid in place while I'm dropping in the motor, or can they be slipped in, up from underneath? Will the passenger side drop in from the top.... it looks like it may... Also at least one bolt on each side looks almost totally obscured by the primaries. I suppose getting bolts in those are going to be extremely tough. Perhaps those will have to be wiggled in first. Ideas? Cheers, Mike

I will bet $500 that they will NOT go in from the top, even if you hot wrench the frame.
Even if they are already in the chassis, you will have to lower the headers, then raise them up as the engine is going in.
The oil filter mount, and starter will have to be off, as well as the dipstick out, to put them in.
If the small 7/16ths head, header bolts wont work, use a short 3/8ths allen head bolt.
Be persistent.
Good luck.

check the clearance on the upper control arm studs on passenger side
and the lower arms where the tubes turn 90 deg. and go into the collector.

Warhead,do you have more pics of your Olds on here? like to see them.

here is a 64 I did a few years ago. they look about the same color

oh yeah, like others have said it's not an easy install probably simular to my 67. You should really get a mini starter. I have the 4-field factory GM starter stuffed in there, but when it needs to be serviced-OUCH, going to have to raise the engine, loosen the header bolts and find the right tilt to remove it. Then I have a new Power Master mini starter on the shelve. The GM 4-field will be restored and go in the 64 Post car because 64 build is going to have a nice pair of massaged W-Z manifolds.

I have a couple more photos on my laptop, car is just out of paint, and is at the interior shop. Parts are slowly going on it, so it will be awhile before I get any good quality shots. I tried to download a few, I find it easier to toque 4.0 Jeep manifold bolts in the vehicle, than do this.

BTW, the Blue really pops on these cars, don't it?
