Ity has been awhile since I have posted anything. I still have the 1978 Royale and has 93k miles. About two years ago I started it in the storage facility and it died quickly. It wouldnt start and the starter had the freewheeing sound. I knew what it was. It jumped time. I finally got around to working on it a few months ago. I have it apart, and the new chain installed with both cap and #1 cyl at tdc. I havent replaced the front cover yet since I wanted to get a mobile oil change company to come out with an extractor and stick the tube through the front cover first and suck out the oil and any debris. Then remove the pan bolt to drain the rest. So far its gone well and have been careful. It is hard to find anyone around Charlottesville to help. I called an oil place and he made excuses twice. It is like no one wants to work anymore. in place
Purchasing your own extractor would probably cost less than having someone come out but, in my opinion neither will help much. Sure cleaning the pan is good but the problem is that many of the nylon teeth that broke off are stuck in the oil pump intake screen. No suction extractor will get them out. The only way I know of to clean the intake screen properly is to remove the oil pan.
Don't want to be the bad news guy but this is the case.
FWIW, I bought the Horrible Freight oil extractor. You wouldn't get any nylon timing gear teeth out of the bottom of the oil pan with it. Plus, it needs a different pressure gauge and air fittings to work well. So, double whatever the price is to get it to work properly.
I know you don't want to hear it but here is a not so great picture of the oil screen from my Wife's car after the nylon sprocket gave up like yours did. You should probably consider pulling the pan
