Pushrod length
Hello everyone, im new to the group and like you i am a lover of the olds, specificly the 81-86 cutlass supreme. I have a question that im hoping someone can give me the answer too. I took my 350 rocket and bored it over 30 shaved the heads and did a 3angle job on the valves. I also installed a 490 lift comp cam etc. etc. ,which brings me to my question. Can anyone tell me what would be the proper lenght pushrod i should use?

You need to use an adjustable push rod to determine the correct length. Use the adjustable rod to get the valve train geometry right, then measure the length of the push rod and order a set in that length.

1. You MUST measure pushrod length for the engine in question. There are a dozen variables that can affect pushrod length.
2. If you're using the stock rocker arms with the bolt-down fulcrums, pushrod length affects ONLY the lifter preload. Not nearly as critical a dimension as with an adjustable valvetrain where it also affects rocker arm-to-valve tip geometry.
3. When you measure the pushrod length, be aware that there are AT LEAST three different ways to measure, and you need to use the same measurement that your pushrod supplier is using.
