'70 W-25 hood metal frame piece....

I have a '70 OAI hood that has been hacked on. The front left and right front edges have been trimmed to make it a 71-72 hood. Badly, might I add. The fiberglass I can fix. But I would prefer to use some patched in original metal rather than fab up and bend bits and pieces to repair what's missing. So what I'm looking for is a pretty much destroyed hood where I could salvage the front edge metal. Anyone have such a beast? Bent is ok - as long as it can be unbent...

If you don’t have any luck with responses on this, I believe that Troy Thornton would sell the frame alone from his reproductions..

Could you use a regular steel hood as the source for the donor metal? Might be easier then making your own even if the don't match exactly

I'm not sure how I would separate the inner frame from the outer shell - honestly I haven't seen what the underside of a steel hood looks like. I'm thinking they would be measurably different.

I have reframed a W-25 hood from a donor (standard hood) albeit for a 72 not a 70. I believe any 70-72 hood would work and you would have to modify the frame at the ends. To remove the steel frame from steel hood you will need to drill out welds. One thing to note is that you will be triming the sides as the steel hood has the frame fold over (90 degrees) at edgges and this edge is deleted on W-25 hoods as they are panel bonded to SMC (fibergalss) top. Also, you would need to cut out the metal

for OAI on steel frame.
Steel frame is to the far right (sun roof parts next to them).

KardsHO, thanks for that pic - great information. It looks like I may have a lead on a couple frames from some OAI hoods - that's probably the best way to go....
